I was working on a PC concept and I noticed that KIO are exempted from taking Patchwork Soul. Unless this is an editing oversight, it implies that KIO souls don't come from the Cauldron. By extension, UNDIR souls don't come from there as well. Same goes for Ssressen. Kind of suggests that Kio and Undir are less human and more Elorri than first thought.

But rather than wed,
She drowned him instead,
Now he is a Yaricite toosey!

Elorii go to the Ouromar, and Ss'ressen are said to go to Kassagore directly who consumes their souls and poops out the purified ones for the next generation.

I always assumed that Kio and Undir DO go to the Cauldron, as they are (at least) half human, which in my mind puts them on the same level as Gnomes, which DO go to the Cauldron despite Illiir's Curse. That said, you are correct about the Kio not getting that talent, which does make at least THEIR presence in the Cauldron a bit more suspect. The Undir can be rationalized as not being in the talent because they weren't in that book (released in CoH), but there may indeed be some deeper stuff going on here. . .

Option 1: We know that the Kio somehow have a soul or spirit or genetic trait which 'takes over' a normal human (or Val) genetic code. It was said on the Yahoo Group that Kio+Human/Val = Kio/val'Sungha, which means that there is something about them which is fishy from the start. Perhaps the Kio (due to an Elemental Nature, the power of a foreign god, etc) go somewhere else, and nobody has noticed it until now. You'd think that the Beltinians would have analyzed this at SOME point in the past, but I guess the Kio could be really good at hiding things about their past and present.

Option 2: The Undir AND the Kio, due to their elemental/something else nature have traits which latch onto a human soul, which means that it gains the ability to make it through the Cauldron intact. This means that, like Elorii, each generation is effectively a clone of the one that came before it (soul-wise, anyway) and would resist any patchwork-ness that normal Human (etc) souls get going through the Cauldron.

Overall, I think it has been said that the Undir become less-undirish as their blood becomes diluted, while the Kio only became their present form from the True Kio (different race) after they mixed with Undir, Humans, etc. I also recall that Henry was on the fence as to whether or not Elorii TRULY had souls, but rather Spirits similar to what an Infernal has. If this is due to their Elemental Nature, then the Undir (and maybe Kio) could have a bit of this too, meaning they do not enter the Cauldron at all.

Questions questions questions. . .

Perhaps some of this will be answered in the upcoming Kio book.
