I read some of the WIP version of the Ssethregore book and wondered a few things about Ghost Scale.

The Nation for Ghost Scales is specified as Coryani Empire (Old Coryan) in the racial traits section, but as Ghost Scale Egg Clutch in Table 5-02 New Regions and Skills. Your weapon and amor choices come from your Nation. Does the region (Abessios, Almeric, Coryani Empire, or Milandir) for purposes of skills and languages also apply for Regional Weapons and Armor (ARG Table 2-27)? Or do all Ghost Scales have Talents with Coryani weapons and armor? Not even Ssressen Scale armor? Poor Ghost Scales?

I wondered if there might be a new Regional Weapons and Amor entry for the Nation - Ghost Scale Egg Clutch. Maybe that is unnecessary, but it would be nice if there was at least an entry for Ghost Scale Ssressen like the one for Ssressen from Milandir giving them access to Unarmed and Ssressen Scale Armor.

Also I presume that the line - Ghost Scales are not considered to be citizens of that region - should (perhaps specifically) exclude them from some background (and path) choices - Former Legionnaire, Former Royal Marine, Squire?, Former Official?, Former Scout?. It's hard to know if some of these are appropriate choices whereas some others seem to be more obviously inappropriate choices. If the Nation listed in Table 5-02 overrides the Nation shown under Ghost Scale Ss'ressen Racial Traits then some of these choices become unavailable anyway.

It would have been nice to have a "Ghost Scale Mercenary/Traveller" Background choice too. perhaps I should have become involved earlier and proposed one.

Those are good catches on the mechanical side.

I also second a revision to the Ghost Scale entry on the table (5-02?). I think the GS should have access to Melee (unarmed) regardless of where they end up as mercenaries. It's also possible that the GS martial training would automatically covers certain weapons. I'd like to something like: Dagger, spear, unarmed and the weapons/armor from one of the following nations...

I don't think the GS would automatically have access to Ss'ressen Scale Armor. I like the idea of a GS Mercenary. Though there is also a mercenary background....

On the story side. Though the writing is excellent I find myself saddened and vaguely depressed. Herka might not *BE* evil, but it surely *DOES* a lot of evil. I was reminded both of the plant from Little Shop of Horrors and of Czeslaw Milosz, a Polish refugee, who wrote The Captive Mind on what it was like surviving WWII and living behind the iron curtain. I am glad I never got around to building and playing a Ghost Scale as a PC after reading the section. Their society is as screwed up as Canceri. And less honest. With years abroad in mercenary service there have to be a lot of males who know the party line they are being fed is BS.

And now you know why Ni'Sal of BEAST has converted to the Fire Dragon and, at least informally, aligned with the Black Talon clutch in Milandir. Still...he'd kill you for a gold.

Heck most Arcanis murder-hobos (and admit it most of are deep inside!) will kill for a Gold Crown! Oh we may rationalize in a whole bunch of different ways but we all want the fat loot at the end of the mod. And I never heard anybody turn down gold when it's offered....

Your Crowns are worthless here. Coryani Imperials only.

Sorry I was not precise enough...I meant gold in general and GC is the term used in the book as I recall. Truth told you wave enough gold in front of a Coryani Senator and he won't care where it came from... ;)

Actually, I suspect being found with a chest of 1,000 canceri gold coins would be enough to get a coryani senator convicted of treason just on suspicion alone. So to some degree, I do think that they would care - not necessarily where it came from, but what where it looks like it came from...

I think anyone clever and ruthless enough to become a Coryani Senator would have that Canceri gold melted into ingots asap ("nothing to see her, move along" ;-)) And never ever underestimate the power of greed or the prevalence of corruption among politicians and other rulers. A manifest truth since the dawn of sentience. :-)
