Really, a whole golden crown? Is it ok if I renegotiate for 100?

Crown presumably being a gold coin name, like the Coryani Imperial, or the Altherian Owl.

Yes, I know what 1gp is, which is not enough to pay an adventurer. I know the APG folks work for cheap, but us 5E people charge more. (Trying to point out an issue with a mod not be converted correctly.)

Acknowledging the facetiousness of this comment, I should point out that ARG isn't 'cheap', it is that 5e (and D&D in general) suffers from such rampant inflation it makes the Weimar Republic look financially sound. After all, in ARG a Sc gets you pretty far and Gc is a pretty good windfall, while Cc are kind of annoying bits of accounting. In D&D, do you even think to use sp and cp in any real capacity? You have to start using pp's and ep's to keep the weight down and by the time you're level 10 you are using gp's to plate your walls (to use the whole "money is so worthless it is used to insulate houses" reference).

In terms of 5e for this mod, the reference PROBABLY should have been changed to better reflect the vastly different economy. A good 1:1 conversion for people between the two systems is Sc (ARG) = gp (5e). In this context, a "Gold Crown" is the equivalent of a Platinum Piece.

So now that we have being pedantic out of the way. Can I offer the PCs 100gp for the mission, instead of making a 1gp joke?

Hello,

No, you can''t.

The economy of the campaign isn't a gold heavy economy and the previous rewards should be in silver. So gold is a step up.

Obviously, you can do what you like in a home campaign, but for the Living Campaign, unless I'm completely mistaken, you must adhere to the amount listed.

Vexing Priests was written originally for the A:RPG system which is on the silver economy instead of D&Ds gold economy. I have not looked at the 5e version in any depth, but it's possible that the money was converted at the conclusion but not in the boxed text. I would look at the end of the mod. If it's 1 gp there then the PCs have to lump it, and or think of Bishop Faustus as a skin flint. If the conclusion says the PCs end the mod with more cash then I would offer that.

Actually, in the Boxed Text you are supposedly paid by the one that you save, but then there is no money in the Treasure Summary. I think someone needs to take another look at the conversion.

Lucas,

I spoke with James Vacca last night about this and the error in crediting the wrong author in Eric's adventure.

Apparently, he and Peter changed the economy to a gold based one and missed that reference.

He said he would be correcting this and updating the adventure.

I'm sure he'll post here with news of that fix as soon as he's done.
