Greetings,

For my home campaign I'm looking to include the influence of Eryunell or at least explore that lost City State. I'm looking for any references to information outside the original Codex Arcanis that discusses them. My impression / recollections of Eryunell are as follows:

* Eryunell was founded by some of the Imperator's Battlemages
* The fall of the Imperium caused rise within Eryunell the philosophy that the gods no longer exist, leading some at least to help found or become involved in the Mourners in Silence
* The City of Golems was probably the City State of Eryunell
* The level of magic known and practiced by them far exceeds what is available today except perhaps to the Sorcerer King of Ymmandragore.
* The Eryunellians believed that Man created the gods through their belief rather than the other way around and attempted to spontaneously create Godhead through force of will alone (ref: Yahoo Group post from Henry, so a long time ago).
* Wiped out by the Myrantian Necromancy Lords with the help of the SK

Any references from mods, sourcebooks, etc would be appreciated. Thanks.

With a sweep of his hat,

Paul

That covers most of what I/we know.

I am not sure that the Eurynelians believed that the gods were created by man exactly. Instead after the "abandonment" by the Pantheon of Man and the "disaster of the rise of Leonydas" they attempted to create a "tame" "god-in-a-bottle" to protect them. I believe that one wild theory put forward by Scott Charlston was that the SK is/was originally their attempt to create a god and the reason he sided with the Myrantians despite their obvious unsavoriness was to nuke wizards who tried to control him.

Wouldn't bet the farm on this being true w/o more data. That story is at significant odds with the traditional origin of the SK, which says he came to Arcanis/the Isle of Tears from a different world/dimension. But i find it to be a neat idea. And if you like it then obviously you can use it in your campaign world.

Maybe its the city of the (stone) Golems, but in my mind i think I've always somehow linked the word Eryunell to to the name Euryale of Greek myth (the sister of Medusa. One of the three Gorgons. Also had snakes for hair and probably petrification powers). If true then the Eryunell might also thematically represent danger and monstrousness.

Both ideas are not exclusive. Eryunell may have found a way to open a 'world gate' using arcane magic alone... and the SK stepped through.

Nearly all the deities (or wanna-be deities) are not native in their stories.

Umor and Pantheon of Man = by ship from the Eastern Continent. Where before that?
Varn = spaceship?
Elemental Lords = divine gate? (Yig/Belisarda/Anshar was manipulating this one)
SK = arcane gate?
Yig + Kassegore = native?

I've always suspected that "the Eastern Continent" is code for the Green Moon. If Umor is Kassegore then he's a "native" of Arcanis.
