I've seen a number of posts that mention the val'Inares changing over time however I do not have and have not read all of the adventures from the last campaign or the d20 materials. Is someone able to give a condensed summary of what it is that actually happens for me please?

OOC what we now know is that sometime more or less between the ages of 55-65 the val'Inares feel an urge to travel through an Ansharan Portal. They go a special location where, free from prying eyes, they undergo a physical transformation into a ssethric humanoid species. Their natural powers grow and eventually exceed those of Ssanu. And the Ssanu have known about this since the begining. Afraid of being displaced by a different group of Yig's children, they have been systematically ambushing and murdering them throughout the Centuries until the practice was discovered and stopped by the Heroes of Light. Now under the Guidance of Nescor val'Inares they (the val'Inares elders) are discovering what their potential truly is within the shadows of Abesios. On a handful outside the family know the truth, but this does include some powerful people like Matriarch Elandre.

IC what people know is that the val Inares come down with a terrible scaly disease and die at the onset of old age. From the old Codex we have:
Old Campaign Codex wrote:
Pitied amongst all the Val families, woe and suffering tend to follow the val’Inares throughout their lives. Parents lose infants to crib death, fortunes are gained and lost with regularity, bright sons and daughters disappear without a trace, or some of the elderly contract a horrible, disfiguring disease. Yet, through it all, the val’Inares family perseveres...

We also have concerning the "Usurper" Oswald val'Inares who deposed a Milandesian King and set himself up as monarch:
Old Codex on Oswald wrote:
When Oswald became afflicted with and died from a horrible disease that dried his skin so that it was covered in scaly shingles of necrotic flesh, all saw it as the Gods’ will, both for murdering clergy and for the betrayal of his oaths to the rightful King.

Eventually I believe the truth is either going to be brutally suppressed or there is going to be some kind of social chaos when it becomes common knowledge that the val'Inares turn into "monsters" and that Anshar is really Yig. The Mother Church stands to take a body blow that they have concealed this knowledge.

While that all fits and makes sense, I think it opens up a whole new can of questions! It's like getting a teaser for an interesting character in season 1 of a show and then having to slowly wait to find out what their story is many episodes down the line!

The challenge is there are so many interesting characters (NPCs, plots, places) that there are competing teasers and not enough time to get to them all at once. Of course, that's a good problem to have.

With a sweep of his hat,

Paul
