Hello Iltharanos and Akira,

I think Iltharanos (welcome to the forums!) is referring to the fact that the Primer only offers four Val familes.

In answer to Iltharanos' question all the Val families, elorii, and dwarves, along with a lot of other material will be in the Arcanis 5E rpg book.

Thank you for the errors found - we'll get those fixed asap.

question about languages. The Background "Acolyte" gives followers of ssethric gods the ssethrics language, and followers of the elorii goddess the eloran language. Isn't that primarily just going to be horribly redundant? What happens with languages when someone is given a language the already have from a source?

This is a little of topic, but... I notice how in 5e there is the primal casting distinct from arcane and divine. This obviously seems to simplify some things that have been complicated in the past. I also find it interesting that in the core book of the ARG there are 2 references to the talent "spiritual awakening" that was apparently replaced by arcane spellcasting (primal), indicating that in some stage primal was probably not going to be lumped in with arcane spellcasting in the ARG either, but that was changed.

Was that combining of primal with arcane in the ARG a story based decision (there is some reason they should be together in the campaign and 5e is wrong with this clear separation) or a rules simplification/rules reason (i.e. expediency for creating the product without creating an entire 3rd class of casting to have to write about). In other words, is 5e fixing a point of confusion in the ARG, or is it in some way breaking it?

Either way, it would be nice to have the rules agree, since it will be weird for Entzara to be hunted by Ymandragore in the ARG version of the game, but not in the 5e version of the game. Is the new Ssethregore book going to address this "primal confusion" at all?

About psionics. In 5e they are wizards (Who knows there might be a sorcerer version as well) and arcane magic. You can not multiclass arcane and divine, with no mention of an exception for psionics. The big deal for psionics in the ARG is that you can mix psionics and divine. It is strange to allow mixing in the ARG, and then not in the 5e. Is this an artifact of it only being the primer, and mixing will be allowed in the final 5e rules (once psionics is actually introduced)? Or is there a sea change in how psionics plays with other magics?

Ken,

This is just a primer - a taste of what will be forthcoming.

If you notice, there are no rules for psionics. That will be in the full book.

There will be differences with how each rule system interprets the setting. I wouldn't compare and contrast one against the other as a way to glean story elements.

Many thanks to everyone who caught errors and discrepancies in the primer, you folks are great! Keep the questions and comments coming and we will update the PDF as necessary.

Regarding things like psionics and multiclassing as well as primal magic, I will add my voice to Henry's. There are some things that are necessary to do in the 5th edition system for balance reasons that weren't necessary in ARG so the two systems will not match. We will strive to keep the themes and integral concepts of the world of Arcanis consistent across both systems but sometimes there many not be an exact one for one match.

Don't hesitate to ask about these apparent discrepancies; you might catch something we missed or have a different take on it that we didn't consider.

Speaking of literacy, the primer states that the only way to gain literacy is by either playing a race that starts off literate, taking a background that grants literacy, or giving up one of your character's total languages known to gain literacy.

What about the Feat Linguist (pg. 167 of the 5e PHB)? It states you 'studied languages and codes', granting +1 Int, gaining three languages of one's choice, and the ability to create written ciphers (wouldn't this course of studies make one literate?). Was this feat overlooked?

Two Points.

First, you do not need to be litterate to create a cypher.

Second I suspect the terms of the OGL prevents paradigm from altering a PHB feat.

True, but I do believe one does have to become literate to learn how to read them (how else is one going to learn, or be taught, them?). Unless I am looking at this from a different approach?

That is true...unless you are using say Naval Flag Signals, or Semifor, or other military visual codes like BEAST signs.

Also, I think you are trying to turn the 5e system into all the crunchy glory of ARG. 5e is much more rules light. Thus there will be things that don't make as much nitty gritty sense. But the advantage is it plays very fast because it is simple mechanically.
