Post subject:  5th edition primer comments and questions

So, I’ve taken a look at the 5th edition primer, and it is looking really good. Really great start to revamping 5e to be playable in arcanis.

Sadly, in looking at things, I did find one point of confusion. The multiclassing section very clearly says the primal spellcasters are druids, rangers, and warlocks (spirit patron – only one allowed for players) on page 45. In their respective class sections, Druids and Rangers are identified as primal. But under the Warlock description (pg 38) it says that all Warlocks gain the hunted by ymandragore trait, owing to the Sorcerer-King’s desire to hunt down all people capable of casting arcane spells.

So are warlocks of the spirit patron primal casters or arcane? I think the mistake is in the class description on page 38, but thought I should check.

Also on page 38, it says that “Though not always hunted by authorities, those bound to the Spirits are often targeted for discrimination when in ‘civilized’ lands.” Does this apply to the Druids and Rangers as well? This just may not be mentioned because it is a primer, not the full book, but it seems relevant to know if the discrimination is to all primal casters, or to warlock casters in particular. I also want to know if this discrimination us just kind of a back woods bumpkin kinda thing, or a "burn the heretic" kind of thing...

Nope - that's an error that was flagged to be deleted but was not.

Just ignore it.

A few other things to clean up that I noticed as well on the first read.

1. Cleric section; Illiir = Male only, Saluwe = Female only (will save some angst later).
2. List of Legions under Legionnaire; Legion of Heaven's Blade should be removed from the 'primer' due to the current status of that Legion. Again, will save some background issues for new players. (ie: PCs under 40 couldn't be from that legion as they were elsewhere).

Agreed.

No that's fine. The 5E campaign is starting at the beginning of the Coming of the Destroyer story arc, so no issues there.

Which may generate some interesting problems for Astra as the plot develops...

All errors mentioned by you guys (Thanks!) have been corrected and a new PDF has been generated. In case you want to download the latest version.

Same link.

Thank you again!

I'm sure we'll find more later. Since I don't have or play 5E, I have no idea what half the rules stuff means yet.

Ok folks at PCI, big thank you. I've got the gaming group getting scheduled and characters being created. However, I may have missed this...
What XP do judges get for burning the mods? Being that I've been out of "living" gameplay for so long, I don't want start at first level when my group is higher; when we go to (hopeful commenting here) conventions!!

Many thanks again!

Just did a quick reading of the primer. It looks great, and I'm already looking forward to this coming spring for the kickstarter. :D

I did notice a few errors in the primer, mostly minor.

Page 21: New Material references state new spells on p. 33 and new equipment on p. 36. Pages should be 53 and 56, respectively.
Page 21: A word on literacy. It refers to backgrounds on p. 27, but backgrounds is on p. 47.
Page 21: For languages for Dark-Kin it says to see p. 36 for national languages. National languages are on p. 49.
Page 24: Subraces refers to Kelelene. The reference should be to the Kelekene.
Page 26: Skill versatility for humans references p. 37 for national skills. National skills are on p. 52.
Page 26: Language for humans references p. 36 for national languages. National languages are on p. 49.
Page 56: The table references Athenian flintlocks. Should be Altherian flintlocks.
Page 56: Lorica Segmentata does not indicate if it is light, medium, or heavy armor. It seems like it'd be medium armor, being like half-plate, but more expensive and without the disadvantage to stealth.

Questions:

Any chance for a form-fillable character sheet?
I'm assuming we'll be seeing more bloodline powers at higher ranks in the forthcoming rpg? If so: :D
I'm kicking myself for not backing the 5e Forged in Magic kickstarter. When will this be out in pdf/print?

I'll add to this post if I see any more errors, and thanks again for producing this for 5e!

Welcome to the forums! Good job catching those errors.

In regards to the bloodline powers, it has been stated a number of times that new powers are not on anyone's to-do list. I actually haven't had time to look over the 5e document, but I assume that the existing bloodline powers from the APG system will be converted over to 5e, and then I wouldn't expect a ton more in the way of high level bloodline powers.
