As an aside I love that everyone thinks Hilur is on the up and up just because he's polite and acts grateful toward the PCs for his rescue... He could be for real or he could've been a clever plant by Uhxbractit. Just saying...

No one has yet talked about issues of trust, misinformation, propaganda, politics and lies. Not everything written down is reliable...an elorii tells an Altherian about the Il'Huan war. Is it just a story? A bit of History? Is there an agenda behind the words? Is it all true? Does the Altherian find it creditable? Useful? Dangerous?

On the bigger issue of who knows what vis-a-via knowledge ranks I find what's listed to be useful guidelines. Guidelines! A non specialist Coryani or Milandesian historian ends Tier V with 18 ranks in Knowledge History ... and no meaningful knowledge about the creation of the Gulf of Yarris at the end of the war with the Il'Huan. That makes sense to me. Probably not their area of focus, pretty esoteric and ancient. You also can't learn about that event just by hitting the stacks in a big city...it's a "plot point" governed by what the GM wants to do.

If your character is half Fox Mulder, half Livy and half Indiana Jones (also called Tukufu...) maybe you work with your GM to be more knowledgeable. Also possible some (many?) mainstream historians think you are a crank or a hack.

Guidelines! We don't need no stinking guidelines! :) Seriously though that was one of the things I liked about the old codex was the biased points of view concerning each nation. I don't have a major problem with the high requirements to know the really ancient obscure stuff. If it's that important to you build a character with an eye to knowing that stuff. Most of the characters I play will have no idea and some even care less about "ancient history." When in doubt leave it buried, 'cause sometimes they buried it for a really good reason. ;)

All that aside, moving back to the subject at hand do you guys have anything else that you really like about the book? I understand that rules crunch is going to be the make/break of the book, but as a Lore-junkie, I'm hooked on this book!

Haven't had the time to read it in depth, but just skimming the movers and shakers section was pretty good. It has the tidbits I want to see if I was a GM running a home game and the hooks one can use when writing a mod. I suspect I will also like the various neighborhood details as well. I really do think the Blessed Land and the First City would be a cool place to set a home campaign (now if I can only convince group to take that plunge!) The stuff on the outlying areas looks pretty good as well. Still if I have to choose I will go with character backgrounds of the movers and shakers.

What the... ?!?!?!?!? I made my character with the weak willed flaw for a reason, and let me tell you, it wasn't so he would leave stuff buried for a good reason! :)

Well, so far, probably the best has just been the maps, both the world and the city. I'm waiting to see the blessed lands map and then I'll go over a bunch of the locations a lot more in depth. And look at the travel time estimates and apply that to the maps and think about all kinds of additional things.

I only recently realized there was something that I thought should be in there, that I was surprised wasn't- a description of the different "interesting weather" phenomena. I know just about anything can happen, but I thought there were some pretty standard ones that would make it into a description of the blessed lands.

I was really pleased as well about the (partial) list of gifts of the gods. We appear to know some of what and where 5 of the gifts are (altheres, illiir, beltine, saluwe, and anshar, to some degree) even if we can't actually access them all. We know what two more of them are but they are lost (Larissa and Yarris), but we still have no idea what 5 of them are (hurrian, nier, cadic, neroth, and sarish). I love that Saluwe gave a tree, and that we know where it is. I can't wait to spend a night sleeping in its boughs. (in bird form, of course) The question is, can I eat the bugs in the bark, or is that violence that can't be done under the tree? Are there bugs in its bark?

Just remember "Stupidity Leads to Character Creation." Trust me from experience I've learned in Arcanis that sealed things should generally be left alone...or bad things happen... :o

It will be listed in an Appendix under Weather (Abberant and Otherwise) in the Blessed Lands.

I'm hoping to include a few Appendices like Calendar and New Religions. It all depends how many pages the Rules chapter takes up when it's laid out.

Appendices!!!

If I had one thought about things that are missing so far I would've mentioned a list of major religious groups. We Know a smidgen about the Death Mongers and Aii. What else is prominent in the First City?
