New years resolution...behave myself in chariot threads.....

So if a Holy Champion casts "Find Steed" and hitch's a one rider chariot to the steed, what happens when the steed dies? Does the chariot go to the celestial plain like a saddle would. Or is the chariot left behind?

Thanks

I would expect that the chariot stays put. It's not a celestial. It doesn't die. And the steed is certainly not wearing it...

My opinions.

Unless you are looking for a way to permanently get rid of a chariot??? Its you Eric, so I am not 100% sure... :P (if so try burning instead)

Thank you Eric!

While I admire your suggestion of using fire to get rid of a wooden object, that was not my intent this time. Rather, if I understand the point of "Find Steed" it is to assure the HC is able to use his steed whenever the encounter makes it feasible. For example, say the HC is trying to enter a walled city. He can easily use the steed outside the city. Inside the city he can use it on the streets. But getting the steed over the city walls is another matter entirely. The Find Steed spell's ability to dismiss and summon the steed overcomes the logistical problem imposed by the city wall. This normally applies to saddles, tack, and barding to again overcome the logistical issues presented by the city wall. But the spells description itself is largely silent on how far this ability extends. In theory, if there is no limit to what the steed can 'wear' then "Find Steed" becomes an extra efficient version of Leomond's Secret Chest. Which is a much more powerful spell. Or in the alternative, Find Steed becomes a large bag of holding, which is something the campaign has thus far avoided awarding to players because of the potential for abuse. (Has nothing to do with me in the 3.5 days I assure you).

Arcanis is unique in 5e land, with the addition of another HC spell at second level. Namely 'Call to Arms'. Again, it is a way for the HC to avoid the logistical issues associated with moving armor and large weapons into place without wearing it. At least Call to Arm's ability to move armor and weapons across distances allows for the HC to work in stealth required encounters without hampering the class throughout the whole module. Or, in the alternative, hampering the rest of the party with a clanky, shiny suit of armor when stealth is called for.

With these two mechanical benefits of Find Steed and Call to Arms my question is "Whether it is reasonable to extend the saddle exemption of Find Steed to a single rider chariot, provided the chariot is not being used to circumvent the problems created by an oversized bag of holding?"

If this is an unreasonable application of the Find Steed spell, then I am looking for reasonable suggestions for making a chariot portable when the Steed's presence is not feasible.

Thanks again.

Again I am not official.

But I went back and read the SRD Find Steed spell. I think its somewhat more restrictive than you think.
In my Copy of the SRD they wrote:
You summon a spirit that assumes the form of an unusually intelligent, strong, and loyal steed....When the steed drops to 0 hit points, it disappears, leaving behind no physical form. You can also dismiss your steed at any time as an action, causing it to disappear.
My first post was inspired by the Paladins steed from past editions. I take this spell (in 5th edition) to mean that your riding gear and barding stays behind. I mean, its not a mount in its natural form on its home plane and the spell implies when it leaves it just vanishes. Unless someone can point me to some well reasoned errata ...?

Good news. You can put any saddle and/or barding in the chariot basket when they aren't in use. Bad news. You are dealing with "more stuff" and not less - complicating your logistics.

If your PC in question is Milandesian, Tukufu has suggested to me that I tell you to "put a squire or two" on lugging your stuff around. May I also suggest, that while its probably morally deplorable, the Coryani have few to no qualms about using a house slave or two for the same purpose? Also "nobles" generally get away with more "stuff" than humble "commoners" ... I would also suggest you invest in fancy background and buff up your Bluff and Intimidation skills.

Thank you again Eric.

Good points all around. Sadly, after reading Call to Arms it does not appear that I can use it on barding. Bummer.

Well your suggestion of squires is useful, but frankly I don't know anyone that would squire themselves to Oozejumper. Also, gnomes are generally considered good slave material, not slave owning material. Still, I might just have to invest in a spell rune of animate dead to obtain the same ends. Maybe the gods will look kindly upon this conversation and a solution will appear at the emporium.

Eureka!

I can get a Spell rune of "Enlarge Reduce" and reduce the chariot in size to a very manageable 12.5 lbs. It will only be temporary. But it will help with logistics. Also a floating disk spell would help as well.

Considering the text of find steed, "while mounted on your steed, you can make any spell you cast that targets only you also target your steed." I would think that the "call to arms" spell would also work while mounted to bring at least the barding for the horse at the same time it brought your armor. As a GM I would allow for that to bring the tack, harness, and bridle at the same time (which should be interesting considering you have to be mounted before using the spell - ouch) but I can see how mileage might vary for that. I would not allow it to apply to saddlebags or a chariot.
