Question 1: Do all (N)PC furies gain their powers from primal (or divine) spirits?

The text makes me think the answer is no. In the Campaign Setting it says on page 98 that, "Some furies are simply common folk, possessing a wild fighting spirit with little in the way of martial training." And also on page 99 (second column under Fury's Paths) "The power which burns within the Fury's heart is undeniable. But the way they reach and channel their rage varies, some simply focus on the power within while others attract powerful spirits which inhabit their body..."

But the Kio book says ALL Kio who take any levels in Fury, regardless of archetype, gain the "Shunned By Your People" trait.

Question 2: Is that correct? While I think its clear that the Path of the Possessed and the Path of the Warped One involve furies (primal or otherwise) inhabiting the body of the (N)PC. I don't think this is true for the Path of the Beserker. It seems to me a Beserker Kio should be possible without automatically being shunned.

Question 3: In the alternative, if the Beserker is also channelling a primal spirit, then should val be banned?

The Berserker is not a primal sub-class but still carries a strong social stigma among the Kio...

For reference, the kio value self control over almost anything. Losing control is a major faux pas.

Being a Fury or a Berserker doesn’t necessarily imply you lack self control. You can play it that way. Or not. “Sing o Muse of the rage of Achilles.” It’s the Greeks warrior’s killing no rage that makes him night invincible in his show down with Hector. And in game terms you could certainly recreate the Greek hero as a Barbarian/Fury without playing him as an uncouth lout.

The mechanics would also support such an interpretation. For example you can use maneuvers and techniques from a combat school while in a rage. You are not out of control while raging. The berserker feature is just another choice to go all in on hitting your opponent at the expense of defense (your other tactical choices are unimpeded).

I would think a Kio built as a fury would potentially be a scary duelist that had many people walking on eggshells when he was around. Unusual? Yes. Perhaps even someone with a ceiling on how high they could rise in kio society. But certainly someone who also fits in to same culture that produces Eagle Warriors. And not someone to be automatically stripped of ther sword and cast out of society.

My opinion.
