A psion gets a Discipline a 1,5,10, and 15.

if the intention is when you receive the psionic discipline powers starting at level 5, like you received that at level one
the Paragraph on pg 133 should indicate 4,9, and 14 levels lower instead of 5,10, and 15

if the intent is for the powers to come at level 6, the class features should be at 6,11, and 16

I can see a clear argument for both interpretations?

I was very confused about what you were saying here, but eventually think I got it, and it is a very good point. What you are pointing out is that you get your second discipline at 5th level and it functions as 5 levels lower, so it starts as 0th level, which makes no sense, right? Same for later disciplines.

I also found myself confused by the numbers of power a psion is supposed to have. According to the table you start with 4 - but is that four of your choice or does that include the power you get from your discipline and the power you get from your tradition? If it does include those two, what happens at fifth level when you don't get an additional power, but you do get an additional discipline that gives you a power? By 20th level, does a psion have 9 powers, or 9 powers plus their tradition and their 3 discipline powers?

This got fixed in the final version of the book... it states 4,9, and 14 levels lower now

Disciplines grant an additional power, not from the powers you choose.

In a separate conversation (not on this forum), Pedro Barrenechea (lead rules developer for Arcanis 5e) clarified a few things that are intended to wind up in the Arcanis 5e FAQ:
  • You gain spell expressions for all disciplines based on psion level.
  • You gain access to discipline features based on your scaled level (e.g., full psion level for primary discipline, psion level minus four for secondary discipline, etc.).
  • Once you have access to a particular feature, it functions based on your full psion level.

For example, consider a straight-classed psion who at fifth character level chooses psychometabolism as their secondary discipline. They gain access to the feature Mind over Body but do not yet get access to Subconscious Weapon Mastery or other higher-level discipline features. They also immediately learn the first three spell expressions for the discipline. Upon reaching 6th level, that character gets access to the feature Subconscious Weapon Mastery, which will immediately function with the second-attack perk that starts at 5th level psion.

the above is 100% correct

I want to start working on the Arcanis FAQ once the final PDFs are in the wild (Sorc Pacts)
