What languages were around during the same time dragons were around? Did dragons have a language?

Hello,

There's no information as to whether Dragons had a language.

As for what the dominant language was during the Dragon War, which occurred just after the fall of the Imperium of Man, I would say that Altharin would be it.

The language of the elorii, dwarves, and the ssethrics were the same one spoken in modern times.

In the old campaign the one True Dragon we ran into had no problem with Language barriers (or reading everyone’s mind for that matter). To my knowledge the Great Drakes of Ssethregorw knew and could speak ssethric (again in the old campaign I believe at least some Black Talon PCs interacted with one in a special mission).

In the current campaign the True Dragons are still “demigods” ... less sure about the great drakes.

Hello,

Just to clarify, I didn't mean to imply that True Dragons couldn't speak, but that it is unknown if they have their own distinct language.

Thanks Henry!

I only meant to imply there isn’t (or doesn’t seem to be) a language barrier - whatever you speak- IF you can somehow find a Dragon and it deigns to notice your tiny mortal self.

What languages would you like to have if you were an archeologist of lost civilizations?

IMHO I think you’d want the “root” languages: Ssethric, Altherian, & Myrantian ... which would cover a lot of ground. Eloran doesn’t come up as much IME but would also be a good option. Auxunite is in the same boat.

Of course, Khitani, Ymandrake, and Udor are often a good ones too, and now with the blessed lands book we have the potential of Chauni and Dailish as well. But I agree, the two main root languages (altherian and Ssethric) are the best place to start, then possibly Myrantian or Udor. But keep in mind, if you are anything human-ish, you can read, write, and understand Ssethric, but can't speak it because you lack the appropriate tongue structure.
