Besides the PGtA, which has a very small sampling of names only, is there a book or resource with a more robust guide to the real-world parallels for language and names?

ex: My secondary this time around will be an Atherian. I'd like to know quite a bit more about the 'real world roots' of the Altherian language. The same sort of context for Elorii, dwarven, and other cultures would be appreciated for my new players. I've got the following already well documented/established:

Coryan - Latin/Roman
Milandir - Germanic
Ying Hir - Mongolian
Abessian/Myrantian - Egyptian
Khitan - East Asian (Japan?)

Any other guidance that can be provided would be appreciated.

The Arcanis Roleplaying Game has a fairly good naming scheme in it which expands (from what I can tell) over the PGTA.

For reference: Altherian names are Bantu (East African) primarily, though more common Coryani names are not unusual as Coryan ruled it for 500 or so years.

And there is variation inside each region...

While Coryan is broadly Roman/Latin, Salantis is very Spanish, for example.
Milandir is broadly German, but also incorporates Hungarian and Polish influences.
Khitan seems (with what little information we have) to be some combination of Chinese and Japanese ideas, but given it covers a large area there is sure to be variation there too.

For Altheria, while the names are Bantu, its role in the campaign world seems to be very Greek. Of course, there seems a more direct Greek (or at least Crete) analogue revealed in the Kickstarter rewards, with the City State of Kolkara.

For other regions, Canceri seems to cover Turkey and Persia, with some India mixed in.

Hello,

Spanish is not an equivalent for Salantis names. Latin/Roman names should be used.

Hey Henry,

Well, if that has changed I am sorry I spread misinformation, I haven't been active in the campaign for years. But the PGtA specifically listed Spanish as the ethnic guideline for Salantis (pg. 17), so that's what I based my information on.

Thank you for the clarification.

Sorry I dont know who you are, as you don't sign your name to your posts.

Many of the things from the old d20 products are no longer canon, so take things printed in that era with a grain of salt.

Things published in the ARG and 5E products are canon.

Hello Henry,
My name is Matthew, I played in Clemson with Ryan (Ar'khan, the OP), Danielle, Kris and Jacqueline. I doubt I am that memorable though.

I just played an 5E intro mod that had a Salantican named Rodriguez so it still seemed that Spanish names were valid. But again, I do understand things can change over so long a period, so thank you for the clarification. Still getting caught up on campaign changes.

Hello Matthew,

Nice to put a name to a poster.

Alright, one more thing to change.

Thanks!

Hello Henry --

I'm still confused. Page 29 of the ARPG says Salantis uses Medieval Spanish names, and then lays out examples that match.

Balantica and Illonia are the provinces that are described as hewing to Roman names. Were you giving the answer for Balantica?

Thanks!

James

Hello James,

No. That chart is wrong. It will be corrected in the 5E version and when/if an ARG 2nd Edition gets made, it will be corrected there as well.

I assure you, there aren't/shouldn't be any Rodriguez, Alonsos, etc running around Acanis.
