Here is my first cut at the 'priority order' of Ranges from most restrictive to least restrictive. Given the new Advanced Spell errata, the Range for the Advanced Spell is the shortest range/smallest area/fewest number of targets but is always one of the Base Spell Ranges and not some combination of the two.

Therefore, find the 2 types of Ranges for the Base Spells, choose the one further up on the list and if they are the same Range, choose the one with the smallest numbers.

Quote:
Most Restrictive
Self
Melee (Z Targets)
X’ (Z Targets)
X’
Y’ Cone
Y’ Arc
Y’ Radius
Self (Y’ Radius)
0 (Y’ Radius)
X’ (Y’ Radius)
Least Restrictive

Looks pretty good but I have a few questions:
  • Shouldn't X' and X' (Z Targets) be switched (X' seems more restrictive).
  • Aren't 0 (Y' Radius), Self (Y' Radius), and Y' Radius all the same thing? Why are the first two more restrictive than Cone or Arc?

1) X' is a line I thought so it can hit X/5 number of targets, which is going to be larger generally than Z (usually 1-3)

2) Yes they are essentially the same. I think that's just a mistake on my part :)

1) That makes sense. I was reading it as X' (1 Target) as a lot of single target spells seem to leave it implied rather than explicit (on the range line - it's usually explicit in the description). I didn't realize there were any "beam" spells in Arcanis (guess I just haven't read the right spells yet).

A further thought just occurred to me on the Radiuses...

In theory, 0' (Y' Radius) is the least restrictive of the three as it could be adapted with a spell that increases range. In practice, all of the spells I've seen with adaptations to increase range are "X' (Z Targets)" spells so the advanced spell would be that (instead of 0' (Y' Radius)).

Y' Radius would probably be equivalent whereas "Self (Y' Radius)" is the most restrictive because it targets self (so I don't think can be extended to longer range).

Good call. I reversed it.

Well the one I found is actually a 'wall' at range, so that's still more targets than Z.
