No back ground grants rudimentary prayers, and only one path grants it (Initiate Itinerant)

and to clarify I think if you have access and qualify stat wise to take DSC and Rudimentary prayers, you should not be allowed to take rudimentary prayers. and my suggestion reflects that.
I think rudimentary prayers should be limited to those on their way to becoming priests, but are taking the long way or those that don't have the stats to qualify

That's today. More backgrounds and paths are being developed with new books. In addition, you have to look at Rudimentary Spell Casting, as the rules should be the same. Several paths and backgrounds offer that.

nope rudimentary spell casting is only offered as part of the Apprentice Arcanist path and it Bans you from already knowing ASC (except psionic but you cant apply rudimentary spellcasting to psionic)

and yep it might happen in the future, but we are talking about now, but I'll be willing to bet that the talent wont easily be available to just add on, because thats not what its for

[shrug] I still prefer that we cover our bases now.

"if you are granted or take Rudimentary prayers when you qualify for divine spell casting, you gain Learn Spell instead"
and then making it a [Devout] talent, thus allowing access to it from Templar and similar paths that allow devout talent access "as if you posses DSC"

Same. I try to think long term treatment rather than band aid fix.

Having a restriction when you 'qualify' for something is a very odd thing to specify. I don't recommend it precisely for the 'ease of adjudication' that we're striving for in other places

@Josh: even if it bans you from having "full" casting before you take it, if a (future) path gives it to you, you still get it unless you already have it ASC or DSC right?

@john and cody: You shouldn't restrict to having access to ASC or DSC. That's too heavy handed. It should be if you actually have the talents.

I've never advocated for 'access' or 'qualifying' for ASC or DSC. I've always said that the Special should be "If you already know ASC/DSC or already have Rudimentary SC/Pr" that it becomes "Learn Spell"
