Two questions:

1. What color are the crystals in Dar Zhan Vor?

2. Do the mountains in norther Dar Zhan Vor also have these crystals?

What crystals are you referring to? There are strange crystalline *things* that “live” in DZV but I don’t want to delve further into spoiler territory. The northern Mountains are part of the Corlathian Range. The dwarves of Encali get all kinds of gems and crystals out of them.

I'm wondering what color the crystals are so I can get a good hold of the geography. Don't need to know about the "living" ones, just trying to find a place that fits the description of a "field of black crystal" in the mountains, and was hoping Northern Dar Zhan Vor/Southern Corlathians fit that description.

If you are looking for a natural cause of something like that: obsidian is black volcanic glass, and there are Volcanos in Nier's Spine in Canceri or in the Shaulk Mountains near the city of Erduk in the Hinterlands.

Though since both of those areas are in the middle of the continent they should primarily be quarz-heavy rocks and thus not black, rather than oceanic crust which is more dense and mafic and the typical source of black obsidian. I have a sample of white "seafoam" obsidian from a continental volcano.

Or, you know, magic and make believe. :) That why we play the game.

Yes yes! That was exactly what I was thinking. Those poor stones were lacking in mafic qualities ... :P

Tukufu doesn't write much directly these days but I prevailed upon him to jot down his memories of the DZV "mission" from the safety of his local Starbucks. (FYI he says one opened on the border of the Pense Mar. I don't believe everything he writes me, but they are everywhere...) Plied with a gift card and a tall Mocha he eventually sent back this:

At Starbucks Tukufu finally wrote:
I had other things on my mind while I was there. Mostly about not dying in the next hour. Or escorting several thousand slaves to the border and safety. Still, I can definitely say I saw quartz looking stuff. But no obsidian. Generally you need volcanoes for that...as I understand it. Anyway I didn't notice any volcanoes. Even with the various "distractions" we encountered I think i would have if they were any there. Why no volcanoes you ask? My working hypothesis is that they were simply outcompeted by the other (horrific) features of that land...
