I'm rather curious if there are any players still rocking to the dark triumvirate, considering I heard that playing as a member of Canceri is currently off limits in the living campaign.

But mostly I like to get advice on the holy champion archtype of the deathbringers since these guys are the closest things to WoW Death knights. Are there any tricks to know to play one right in terms of combat and roleplay?

Also what are people's general feel for these guys as they roam around the known lands hunting down heretic necromancers and their befouled creations.

And am I the only one who gets the feeling that Neroth is one the most chill dark gods out there?

Good Evening,

There are definitely far fewer worshippers of the Dark Triumvirate now than there were back in the D&D days. My main character is one of the few legal Cancerese characters in the campaign, the character is only legal as he was recreated via a Kickstarter reward.

The easiest way now to play a character whose backstory involves Canceri is via the Exile/Expat background (ARPG, pg. 126). I am afraid that I can't really speak with any authority on Nerothian worship outside of Canceri, so I'm not sure whether any other nations have a Deathbringer tradition. Certainly the worship of Neroth is as nuanced as that of other gods, so there shouldn't be an issue with simply claiming that your Coryani/Milandesian/etc character follows that aspect of Neroth.

You may also want to take a look at the Divine Trinity (Death Mongers) religious sect in the Blessed Lands book, as Neroth is a prominent aspect of that religion, similar to the Dark Triumvirate.

Hope this helps!

The Deathbringers are primarily based out of Coryan. The Mother Church certainly thinks of them as good guys. If grim and not really a great guest to have at a party. I think "normal" people stay as far away from them as they can help it. At worst they're going to assume that you are some kind of necromancer overlord ... but even at best you are probably a violent (!) servant of Neroth(!) who rides around "killing" things for the Temple of Neroth(!). Most farmers, or tradespeople probably don't want that in their life.

It would be worse in Milandir since they now teach that Neroth is an evil minor god to be placated at best. Almost be definition "that God" doesn't have Holy Champions. Just Unholy ones.

Milage by other PCs probably varies.

But hey, at least you aren't a gnome. (Unless you are ... if so then - wow.)

While visually they look like Death Knights it's important to note that they are pretty harsh on undead outside of the people who directly receive the Blessing of Neroth. Making Zombies or running with vampires is sure to bring their wrath.

Thanks for the replies. That does clear up a lot of questions about the class.

I've ordered a copy of Arcanis 5E so I can be more familiar with the lore. I only know second hand from Con and the pdf primer you guys offer on the site.

As a matter of fluff and background...in the Mythic Age before Mankind came to Onara Neroth killed Illiir in a spat motivated by jealousy. That event set in motion the arrival of all kinds of evil among mankind. It is said that Neroth came to regret his actions, and created the Deathbringers to combat the evil forces he had unleashed. In the modern age death bringers still hunt evil especially acts of extreme X (lust, greed etc) that threaten the innocent. A little like Batman they deliberately choose to cause fear and terror among the corrupt at the expense of fitting in to polite society.
