It does depend on what class you play, but if playing a class that grants 5d4x10 gp (200 gp), that's nothing to scoff at. I found that those classes have plenty of leeway concerning tailor-fit buying what they need (vs. getting predetermined gear), and allowed for the flexibility to start the campaign with items one normally wouldn't (example: a potion of healing) while still having funds on a character for what might get thrown at you. I too made a Human Fighter/Soldier (Former Legionnaire) slated to become a tactician. With the 200 gp, I was able to get him the armor, weapons, and gear I wanted (including a Potion of Healing) and still had over 20gp on me to spare. |
