Is there a story reason that prevents playing an Arcane Arctype member of the Order of the Blade? I can find no rules reason that says you can't do this, but the religious nature of the order makes me wonder.

There's no reason an Arcane character can't join this Order path, as long as you worship Hurrian. Arcane and other characters can be faithful and worship deities.

Thanks! I ask because the Tier II battle spells and Order of the Blade seam like great fits to each other. But I don't recall anyone playing either an Order of the Blade or using Tier II battle spells. Perhaps no one has been interested before....

There is no mechanical reason you cannot be an Arcane Order of the Blade, but Arcanis has reasons which make such things more complicated.

The main objection to the Order of the Blade is that the Human Churches generally have a negative view of Eldritch Magic as it is not Psionics (a direct gift of the Gods) or Divine (Church approved and controlled magic, officially a gift of the Gods). Eldritch magic is--as far as the Milandiric and Coryani churches are concerned--an act of hubris as you are taking the "God's Power" and perverting it in unapproved ways. While not Heresy per se, a lot of the faithful would not be keen on this. For me, I equate this with homosexual Catholic priests: The Church officially dislikes homosexuals, but priests vow lives of chastity anyway so technically it is a non-issue, and as long as you don't give into your sexual urges (either homo- or heterosexual) there is no ban on becoming a priest.

Adding to this is that Eldritch Casters are hunted by the Harvesters anyway, which gives an Arcane Monk another reason to lead their secret life.

I'm coming back around to this PC, and after thinking through all the social ramifications of being an eldrictch caster from an order of divine monks, just does not "fit" even though it it perfectly 'legal'. Divine would work better I think for a caster/swordsman from the Order of the Blade. In particular the "Crazy PC idea's thread" helped me to see this PC in a new light.

Thank you for your input it was most helpful.
