What are the story consequences for val that go primal? I'm sure there are some.

Definately do-able.

Do be aware of the difficulties of making it work long-term (unless you're just after one or two low TN spells) as keeping your Arcanum up, taking the extra DSC talents really dig into your available level options.

What I was wondering was how other val and the church view such activity.

Well as far as the books and rules say, You dont have to worship elemental powers, ancestors or animism to be a primal caster.

But the flavor and paths of the primal caster certainly lean to the heretical side, so...... if you play a normal primal caster, you are certainly a heretic, and if you play a atypcal primal caster, you might be taken as a heretic anyway

So I can follow the Mother Church of Coryan, and benifit from mother church spells. But I live with a secret and am in constant fear of discovery? Sounds like I am one xenophobe away from a lynching.

Personal view: You cannot be an official member of the Mother Church because you effectively worship whatever spirit power gives you your spells. However, there is nothing official either way as far as I'm aware in the rules.

That is a little thorny Cody as the moment that ones faith leaves the church and when one leaves membership of the church are not the same moment. See Of darkness light.

I run a Val primal caster, and that is exactly what he is. He often hides/switches identities, does his best to disguise his primal casting as psionic, and openly vocally espouses his faith in mother church even though he really is pretty much a heretic in an attempt to throw people off the scent.

But why is it any worse for a val than for any other primal caster? Heck, if anything it would seem that they have a better chance of disguising it or pulling strings to have their "eccentricities" ignores. If a val primal caster and ook of the north both play all the same modules, they both get exposed to the same people who might hate primal casters, no matter what their families are. So it would seem more likely that ook of the north would get burned at the state than the Val.
