I have heard conflicting things about this Origins event, The Court of Imperator Calmemnon I.
I have both heard that it is a LARP and that it is not a LARP.

I need to know if I should try to get a costume together for this event or not - preferably before this weekend since the GA renfaire ends this weekend and would be the best place to purchase a costume (I'd be buying something temporary just for this event since the costume I eventually want would be a special order that would not arrive in time for Origins as it will take several months to complete).

If it is a LARP, then for costuming purposes I need to know if the venue is a place where a cleric would be allowed to wear a mask and cowl (citing religious reasons - a la Hurrian)

I responded to this message on FB, but here it is again:

It's an Interactive, not a LARP. While there will be a very short LARP element in the beginning to lay the groun work for the Interactive, you'll be (most likely) adventuring through mini-missions. So no costumes needed.

Whether the Entourage System or mini-missions, I call on all loyal sons and daughters of Coryan to thwart the goals of Calemnon! The murder and misogynist in unworthy of the life he has somehow continued. Despire his expedition into Dhar Zan Vor. Do I need to remind people of his freakish nature or the blood on his hands from killing his own sister?

...or the fact that he fits the prophesies of the Destroyer?!?

I can't think of a val'Assante less worthy of sitting on a throne. But that HE seaks to claim the legacy of the First Imperium with the title of Imperator is scandalous! Don't let him gather the keys! Or receive the blessings of the Heirophant! We must place obstacles in his path!

Question: was his murder widely reported. If not, he seems like a fine you. . . Middle aged man ;)

That's an interesting bit. Cal's been out of the area for a while and our characters don't necessarily know what our players do. Might be nice for someone to let us know just what our character should know so we can base our RP correctly (without the outside knowledge). Might make for some more interesting situations.

Particularly for players of female characters, knowing if his misogynistic attitudes are well known or known to have continued as a general prior to leaving the known lands: did he have female officers under his command, did he treat female legionnaires equitably, etc etc. That will drastically inform our opinions

I would imagine the answer to what you know about "Cal" depends a lot on who your PC is.

If you are a playing a Patrician or Legionaire from Coryan (or just have a few ranks in Knowledge History and/or Etiquette:Coryan) then I think the answer almost needs to be yes ... you know at least rumors swirling around the story of Calemnon. That would be doubly true true for people originally from Grand Coryan or Balantica.

Things you would know: That Scipio's youngest daughter died in infancy and that Calemnon was immediately shipped off to the Val Dellenovs. That is not something easily hidden. Nor are the inevitable whispers of the Imperial Staff as Empress Aconia goes mad at the same time. Maybe you haven't heard that he strangled his infant sister in her crib. Maybe you've heard rumors. Calemnon got on with his Val Dellenovs "Aunties" like ... implacable mutual hatred ... just saying. He was repeatedly "disciplined" within an inch of his life. And of course the Emperor and the Senate conspired to send him off on a suicide mission to DZV with the absolute dregs of the Legions. If you are a Centurion then probably you've heard stories about all the personnel who got shifted in and out of his legion.

Not everyone would necessarily be in the know. If you play a Yhing Hir horseman, a Ghost Scale assassin, or an Undir shaman from the Pirate Isles, maybe you know nothing beyond the fact that he helped save the First City from an invading army.

If you are somewhere in the middle...you'll have to make a personal call. A priest Milandir of the MOC might go either way. How politically savy are you? How much attention do you pay to the news out of Coryan?

On the question of Calemnon' misogyny, I do not know what the official word is on how he acted as a general. My personal suspicion is that misogyny is a theme that carries through who he is. So While i can't say for sure, my speculation is that any women under his command would either have been ignored like they weren't there, or made miserable. That's my guess.

Thanks Eric! That sort of puts things in perspective for me. Based on what I think I know in character I imagine I will give him some benefit of the doubt, but keep a wary eye on him (based on the rumors I've heard from the Coryani Empire and what my dad would have told me. People mostly stay who they are, but his time in DZV may have changed him (for better or worse we still haven't seen). Given this is a "Henry" character I suspect there's a whole bunch of shoes still to drop. :-)
