As I was not involved in the writing at the time, I can't say for sure, but also recall that divine-types in the D&D days could cast spells like "Cure Light Wounds" and "Inflict Light Wounds", which channel positive and negative energy. As such, if anyone would be able to 'feel' such energies floating around, it would be them.

Nowadays, without that trope/metaphysics imposed by the D&D rules, it might be only Ardakenes and Saluweans (and Beltinians?) who could feel it.

When writing a for an adventure, I try to give information from the player's POV and how they would interpret this.

In this case, priests, holy champions and undead would feel "something". I postulated that they would interpret this as the "life force" or "soul energy" depending on their beliefs or experiences.

I rarely write things from a God's Eye view, especially when it comes to esotric things like "souls" or "life force", where what is written is meant to be taken as gospel truth.

Such is the case here...sort of.

What did these PCs feel? Was it a life force or a soul? How could they know for sure? They can only hazard a guess based on their POV, and that's what I meant to convey in that Note.

Fair enough. But from their point of view that was what it felt like. That is close enough for me to work with, at least. :)

Thanks for the responses. It was great to see people take such an interest in a post.
