Actually, the ul'Doxus family is not an actual Val/Ul. The name appeared in the original 3.5 Forged in Magic, and apparently was based on a name created by a real life player before the whole val/ul thing was made clear, and that the individual listed there was human (or Dark-kin, can't remember which).

He was Dark-kin, and you're correct, the character name was picked before the Ul family within Arcanis was mentioned.

Straight from the new book! All are spelled out, but the ul'jaya, but it is most likely Illiir, and previous data supports that.

ul'wei - altheres, paranoid about privacy, cloak themselves, get along well with val'abebi
ul'Hsin- cadic, can make it so others can see in them what they like (bloodline ability to alter appearance?)
ul'Lo - unknown, wiped out by ul'zheng
ul'zheng - hurrian
ul'Rankin - Yarris
ul'shi - larissa, aspect of gluttony, very large muscular family
ul'jaya- illiir?
ul'tang - nier

Also this note on the val'Tai (not Ul),

Quote:
Centuries ago, the Goshin were a vassal family to the val’Tai, one of the ancient Sarishan lineages that were banished to the Infernal Realms as a dying command of an Imperator. Upon the founding of the Khitani Empire, the Sleeping Emperor commanded granted the Goshin the val’Tai’s former lands and bid them to learn the secrets of their ancient masters to better serve the empire.

Not quite...almost wiped out by the ul'Zheng.

I hope you're enjoying the read.

Missed the "almost" thanks for the catch. Loving it! So much answered, but still so much to find out! I didn't see this answered anywhere, are non-Khitani allowed into Khitan? I mean, khitani traders are allowed into Coryan and eastern nations, but there seems to be surprisingly little known about the Khitani still, could a character literally walk in there? Or would they immediately be hunted?

Also like learning a tidbit on the val'trisin of cadic, that were also "almost" wiped out. Would love to have another kickstarter where you could buy an option to play someone from a family like that.

As with most things, one probably needs to look at China for examples of how this works:

Likely the Khitani are an insular group and generally shun outsiders. Unless they are Ansharans (or one of the Val families), they'd probably be tolerated but would never be accepted and would always be treated as a foreigner. Even if they converted to the Kalindruhl, they'd still be looked upon as an outsider. It is even possible that Khitani cities have 'foreign districts' like we've seen in a number of real-life insular cultures and with the city of Seremas in Arcanis.

This is probably also aided with the physical barriers of the Aqtau Mountains, the Fervidus Hills (with the Voei), the Sea of Lanterns, and the Vastwood which filters out the riffraff. On the other hand, the lands of the Known Lands are fairly open from the Aqtau's on with the exception of the Pilgrim's Pass being the only real 'safe' entry from the Known Lands into the Blessed Lands. Think of it like the Silk Road in our world: the Blessed Lands occupy the same role as the Gobi Desert, the Aqtau are similar to the Pamir and the Hindu-Kush, and the Andyar and the Dailish acting as the 'go-betweens' similar to the Turks, the Kushans, the Persians, or the Srivijayans.

So, here are the Ul families that we know of.

ul'Hsin - Cadic - Major
ul'Jaya - Illiir - Major
ul'Lo - Unknown - Minor/Endangered
ul'Rankin - Yarris - Major
ul'Shi - Larissa - Major
ul'Tai - Sarish - Unknown
ul'Tang - Nier- Major
ul'Wei - Althares - Major
ul'Zhang - Hurrian - Major

Originally posted by Henry there were 13 Ul families (including the ul'Tai), but thus far we only have examples of 6 of these families existing to the current day. Another of the listed families (the ul/val'Tai) were banished from the Imperium and possibly have no presence in Khitan at all, while the ul'Lo are of unknown divinity and unknown status beyond "not a lot left." The ul'Rankin are know to exist, but thus far we have not actually seen any named examples of this family so they may in fact be quite rare indeed.

This means that we are missing some 4 Ul families that at least USED to exist at the time of the Khitani Schism from the First Imperium, and we still do not have Ul representatives of Beltine, Neroth, or Saluwe. One of these families was likely wiped out by the Sleeping Emperor following the Second Coryani-Khitani War, but it is unknown which one this was outside of the 'big six' of Hsin, Jaya, Tang, Zhang, Wei, and Shi that we have examples of in the Blessed Lands Book.

Added the ul'Nomai as scions of Beltine, as revealed at Origins 2017.

Well, (trying to be vague) in a module the PCs quite literally walked into Khitan... passing several settlements, and then assisted the rulers of another Khitani settlement. An NPC, whom was a Val, had previously done the same thing alone and without consequence as well. The Khitani definitely treated the PCs and NPC as outsiders, but they weren't hostile and didn't make any demands or even overly question the PCs as to why they were in Khitan (they really acted much the way any settlement would when adventurers show up) - so its not at all like, say, walking into the Vastwood (where the Elorii will hunt and kill you for crossing the border). I get the impression that the Khitani are fine with foreign merchants, scribes, scholars, etc - and on occasion even fine with armed adventurers.
