One of my players tonight had a great question: what do witch hunters call themselves in polite company? It doesn't seem they would throw the witch hunter title around casually, not with the Inquisition and all manner of ears that could be listening. Personally, I figure there is a lot of code used among witch hunters that makes it easier for them to identify themselves discretely when they wish. Here is a list of what I imagine are popular euphemisms for witch hunter. Certain ones will probably be more popular among specific Orders.

Pilgrim
Traveler (Popular with St. Christopher)
Seeker
Hunter
Rambler
Rover
Wanderer
Vagabond (one of the less popular terms, except maybe with the Aesthetics)
Vagrant (likewise)
Drifter (more popular in the New World?)

(Yay! I can use the Thesaurus, but it's still a useful list I think)

Thoughts? What would you add to the list?

Tom

Hello Tom,

All those are viable choices. Additionally, the Witch Hunter can fall back on his original vocation (i.e. Background) in most cases - so from woodsman to Judge as applicable.

Good point, Henry. Granted the PC of the player in question is a spy. Likewise, I think he is looking for a euphemism the team can use amongst themselves in public so as not to draw too much attention to themselves. A Rabbi, a woodsman, and a lawyer walking into a country tavern together might get a few more stares than "a band of weary pilgrims".

Not a very important question in a big picture sense, but nice to have from a roleplaying aspect.

It does occur to me, however, that Lightbringers may not prefer any of these euphemisms. So I need to poke around and add to the list a few that they might go by.
