So while sketching out a new scenario/encounter this morning, I had a thought for a new GM aid. Between talents and powers there are perhaps a dozen "special attacks", each if which do slightly different things. Rather than sort through the rule book, or even flip through two (or three) different GM summary references, I'm thinking about putting all of them on one page. This way, when you (the GM) get to work creating a critter, you have a very easy to navigate menu to match that special attack (talent or power) to your concept.

Sound helpful to anyone else? Other than a summary of what the attack does, is there any additional info that would be helpful to highlight?

Tom -

Great idea! Not sure of any other mechanical info which would necessarily be needed.

Maybe some examples of creatures with that ability as well, to spark imagination?

Tom,

If you're putting all the mechanics on a page and distributing it for others, that's in violation of Fair Usage in copyright law.

Remember, anything that allows complete bypass of the printed (or electronic) publication really goes against copyright law.

Duly noted Henry. Thanks for noting that.

What if rather than the actual mechanics, it was more descriptive? After all, the idea is an aid to help the GM fit the attack to the threat. That doesn't necessarily need to be a full summary of the attack mechanics. In fact, due to the differences between powers and talents, it might actually work better this way.

Example:
Blast Attack: creature unleashes an infernal blast at one or more targets within range.

If that is still problematic, I'll just keep it to a list of powers/talents and reference page numbers. That would be the bare minimum of usefulness (but still useful, IMHO).

Perfect.

Having gotten Henry's blessing, here is the first draft of the aid. Ultimately, I'd like to add examples of variants for several of these to the description, especially for the powers (Blast Attack might read: fire, frost, lighting, etc.).

Does this list look complete enough for folks?

Would anyone like to suggest variants that aren't explicitly listed in the text?

Shattering Attack is incomplete in the spreadsheet.

Oops! I'll fix that in the next pass.

Thanks for that catch!

edit: And fixed! Here's a new link in case the old one broke.

Here's a follow up companion aid, this one devoted to "big, splashy magical attacks".

It's lovelingly titled: I Melt His Face

Between these two, it makes the task of parsing through powers pretty easy.

Idea for a future product: templates! A package of matched powers and prices assorted by theme. Wouldn't be too hard to create, and would make creating threats on the fly even easier.
