I've been reading DB Jackson's Thieftaker novel (a great idea for a new background, BTW! Expect that after the holidays) and it's got me thinking about the concept of auras and how they might fit in the world of witch hunter. Right now, I'm thinking it would make a great hermetic rite. Perform the rite and the performer can read certain things about a person, object or place in terms of color that they are left to further interpret. Nothing as cut and dried as a " know alignment" spell or anything like that. They might get 3-5 different colors that could tell them some very basic things about the subject-something of a jumping off point.
What do the rest of you think? Good idea? Or does it spoil some of the mystery in play?
Any ideas for limits and boosts? Right now, I'm thinking it would be a basic rite.
Is there already a rite that essentially does what I'm talking about?
Tom
