So for next game session, I'm cooking up some big wild boars to harass the cadre. I'm taking my cues from 1st Ed. I figure these are in the process of official conversion, so I wanted to get a couple of questions out there:

1) can animals still exceed the standard threat rating rules? First Ed capped threat ratings at 4, but bear's had a threat of 5. Or was that a typo?

2) I'm giving the boars attacks with tusks +2/+4, and the Brutal Charge talent. Any idea how one might give them a "gore" special attack?

Here's the current stat block:
Wild Boar (Hogzilla) (3)
Threat Rating: 4
Pace: 4
Special Attacks: Tusks +2/+4 (Gore?)
Talents: Brutal Charge
Skills: 8d: Notice, Endurance; 4d: Stealth

At threat rating 4, I'd probably increase the attack to +4/+4

Or maybe +3 with that brutal charge.

Gore would probably just be another type of attack, or simply replace Tusks with Gore as it is mostly the same thing.

Yeah, I've pretty much scrapped "gore" as a special attack at this point. I am, however, considering giving boars +2 damage per bonus success on an attack roll. Might be the seed of a new minion talent.

Boars being what they are, I don't see these beasts as working in bands. So I feel it's important to make them somewhat potent as individuals. I can certainly reduce them to threat 3, but I'd certainly want them, individually, rolling 7+ dice for attacks and damage. I want them to hit fast and hard, but go down without a lot of fuss. The encounter is meant to be more of a shock that paves the way for the baddies who will be the real focus of the adventure.

Since they are a more solitary creature, perhaps making them a low end lieutenant might be a good choice.

I considered that, but that just makes for a longer combat and a bigger stat block. Besides, this is a nice exercise in building minions. But yes, if there was going to be more to the encounter, I'd definitely make them lieutenants or throw in a super pig lieutenant for the other boars to rally around.

Thanks for the feedback, Clint.
