Alessia Val'Mehan. I believe you are remembering things incorrectly.
The Mark of Sarish from Nishanpur did not summon an invisible infernal to protect you.
It only summoned the Infernal IF you were attacked. So while you walked the streets you had no Infernal with you.
The Mark only summoned a specific Infernal as well, called the Vorlerath. And the Vorlerath did not have the natural ability to turn invisible either.

In fact I'm not aware of any Sarishian that walked around with an invisible Infernal. But I may be incorrect in that regard.

There is a quote somewhere, probably in the old Codex from the first campaign that Sarishians are treated with fear and respect even when hated because they tend to have invisible infernal servants around...and who knows? Maybe that guy over there just has a dagger...or maybe he has infernal muscle on tap. In an old IK mod in Stanivel there was an "optional" encounter with invisible Vrocks if you got uppity with the management.

Perhaps that has not fully translated over to the new campaign?

The context of that sentence is a very weak proof of how that spell works. It sounds more like hyperbole than literal description.

Invisibility used to be a common power when we ran on the D&D engine. Now, something that could be invisible at will would be an awesome & terrifying foe. My best guess is that things have changed between rule sets.

I still have some sympathy for Alessia's point that Sarishians generally can't have thier bodyguards in "polite" settings. Something like a "Fiendish Butler" that could pass for human (or at least a dark kin) would be a useful thing to have...maybe it could transform into something bulkier if needed.

Just a thought.

Sadly there is no way for Sarishian's in the current system to have their Demons summoned and not visible to the mundane eye like they were able to in the past.

The ARPG still has flavor text about Sarishans being potentially guarded by invisible Infernals, but there's no way in the rules to have invisibility. :-(
(This is the same flavor text that Eric Gorman mentioned as being in the old Codex Arcanis, which applied when d20 D&D did have magic invisibility.)

Why do you think I always have issues with players saying "I always have my Infernal summoned, just in case"?

In ARPG, my Sarishan PC used to have his Infernal(s) summoned if and only if it was
  • ok with the other characters in the party
  • in a place where it was socially acceptable for Sarishans to have Infernals (e.g., in the wilderness or Canceri, yes; in Milandir, no; other civilization, maybe)

However, I later re-read the story of the val'Mehan family in the Coryani Empire. The northern bloodline branches (both val'Mehans and especially val'Mehens in Canceri) believes that it's fine to summon Infernals all the time. The southern bloodline branches (from Old Toranesta and the rest of Coryan) accept the Mother Church's compromise that it's acceptable to summon Infernals only when necessary and dismiss them when not needed. The key point for all Sarishans is that the Mother Church condones summoning Infernals only for short-term purposes.

Now, I make sure to follow IC the Mother Church's rules and summon Infernals only when I expect trouble. Admittedly, that's sometimes because we're about to enter a dangerous situation, but not just when hanging around in civilization (except Canceri).

There's nothing to say that a Sarishan can't play up that there are invisible infernals waiting to do their bidding at a moment's notice regardless of the truth of the matter.

Also, there are plenty of ways to explain the presence of lack thereof of invisible infernals in ARG - everything from they don't exist, to they haven't been released yet (because they're more powerful) to they can effectively hide in plain sight (One with the Shadows) to it's a spell not available to PCs or others.

There are a bunch of things that it was easy to do in D&D that cannot be done anymore or only with great difficulty in ARG. Especially with 5E starting up there will be differences in what's "true" from an effects and campaign perspective.

With a sweep of his hat,

Paul
