Apologies for the unforeseen delays, but there were some silly technical bugs to work out.

I have just posted the Tier 3 Leveling Cert for the A3: War of the Paragons Story Arc. This cert allows ARG players to either build new Heroes for the new storyline to Tier 3.1, or for existing Heroes below this threshold to be advanced to this level.

The reason this cert is being released is because starting at Origins, all adventures will ONLY be tiered for Tier 3 and higher characters. You do not need to apply this cert to play these adventures, but not doing so will make the adventures much more difficult.

Once this cert is applied, that particular character can ONLY play adventures from A3: The War of the Paragons or later and gain rewards, certs, and XP. This cert is in lieu of playing those adventures, and will not allow "double dipping." For reference, all A3 adventures will be those premiering at Origins 2017 and all subsequent adventures.

The tier 3 leveling cert may be found at the following URL:

looks like the link is truncated. and leads to a 404 error. Can you edit or repost?

(and thank you for getting this out)

Had a discussion yesterday about this.

Only issue was the disparity between New PC and Existing PC wealth. A 1.6 PC is going to be at a big disadvantage compared to both a new PC and one that is in the upper Tier II already.

Suggestion:
"Existing PCs gain 1 GC per full 1,000 xp required to reach 20,000 xp."

Less than a full new PC and within expected earnings in the book.

I agreed with Southernskies on this.

I've had a bit of a think and there are three sorts of players who will want to apply this cert to their characters and only two options.

1) New characters - no problem - the cert accounts for this.
- They get 30GP and will be Tier 3.1
2) Characters just short of Tier 3.1 - not much problem - the cert accounts for this.
- They get to keep their current wealth and their character history and items and will be Tier 3.1
3) Characters further from Tier 3.1 - this is a problem - the cert leaves these characters with a difficult choice.
- They can either keep their character wealth, items and history and be a long way behind the average character wealth of the campaign but advance their character to Tier 3.1, or they can abandon all of this and recreate their character at Tier 3.1.
I don't think the option of abandoning items and history is a good one and I don't think it will be popular. The items might be a Sarishan Steel weapon, a Fervidite item, an armillus of some sort, even just a fun magic item. The history might Uber the favour of an important figure, or the notice of the inquisition. Either way the character is his history and it is important to maintain this.

I think Southernskies idea of 1GP per rank of advancement (or 1000XP) will help to keep these characters in touch with the campaign. 1GP per rank comes to 20GP total if the advancement was from Tier 1.1 to Tier 3.1 so its not out of order. In fact it might be more even to give characters 1.5GP per rank (30GP max).

The players most affected by this are likely to be those who are more occasional players, or those who changed their primary character between year one and two. I think we need to support these players too. If they are left behind by the wealth level of the campaign, they will likely lose interest, and that shouldn't be something we want to happen.

I hope its not too late to fix this. Perhaps a second cert could be created. Just my 5 cents worth, but I think this is important enough to express my views on.

Would just like to add my support to John & Brendan's comments

We have quite a few players that are convention players only and so are only are only around 1.7 (with 1.5 cert) so if they boost themselves to 3.1 (so I can offer the latest games) they will only be around about 5gc in wealth.

Out of curiosity; if one played all the available arc 2 modules (and no special, retired, or one time stuff: just 1.5 and home play), then would one be tier 3.1 or would they be higher than that?

I have not added it up, but you'd be fairly close (maybe 2.9?). I have played/run almost all of the adventures myself and maybe half the specials and I was at 3.3 when the arc started. I know people who ran more specials who were as high as 3.5 at that point.

According to my tracker, if you played everything released without playing a special and received max XP you'd get 20,360 which would be Tier 3.1. My numbers may be off slightly and it's unlikely that over the course of 50 mods or so you get max XP in all of them.

With a sweep of his hat,

Paul

Thanks Paul! That makes it an easier decision for me since my local group is primarily 5e. I'll just make my character at 3.1 for new stuff and a separate 1.5 version solely for playing arc2 mods that aren't converted to 5e.

I made my 3.1 character, a Milandisian Lord Marshal, and I like her enough that the next special event may be a hard choice between her and my 5e Chosen (brought forward from d20) character. I'll probably stick with the 5e character, but I do quite like ARG now that I've seen more of it.
