From what I've been able to piece together (again, nothing official, just my personal observations) the Gar are on the fringes of society everywhere, but are rarely in enough numbers to really count for the most part. You'll probably find a tribe in the mountains of Milandir, a few in the Blessed Lands, some in the more rural Coryani Empire, etc. However, they are few in number and mostly a nuisance. It is when you start getting to places like Uggur (assuming we can 1:1 Gar to Orc per the 3.5) that you start getting concentrations of them enough to be a threat in their own right.

Their widespread nature makes me wonder if they were one of the original races inhabiting the planet. As I recall from the Blessed Lands book they were enslaved by the Cyclops who used gate travel (which begs the question how did they get here, and unless the gates were already here and they learned to use them ala the Goa'uld how did they get here originally, and if they built the gates who taught them to do that--the god I'm thinking of doesn't seem right, but then that individual is know for its shall we say "versatility." So maybe they did learn gates from that god.

But I digress. I'll stop now since this really does not bear on Coryani Battle Mages. :) I may start a new topic on this.

On a related note is there a Nierite legion out of Novo Cormata?

None as yet. The situation is quite fluid over in Nova Cormata and while they are fending off attacks from marauders and nomadic bands of savage Gar tribes with "legion" like formations of warriors, they haven't formally created a legion.

Henry,

Am I right in saying that forming their own legion would do nothing to assist in their own defense, since a legion isn't generally allowed to serve in the region from which it is formed? Thus, a region really has to be successful enough to form a legion solely for the purpose of pride to form a legion, right? Or can there be some, "we'll form a legion and they can relieve X legion of it's task, and then X legion can come here and help us" kind of trading in forming a legion?

That is correct, although thee's more than just pride in founding a legion. There's subsidies from the empire to arm, clothe and feed, not to mention a good chunk of the booty from expeditions beyond the border.

But Nova Cormata has more important things to worry about at the moment.

I apologize if this post isn't on topic, I feel it is though somewhat. Also i didn't wanna make a whole new topic just to ask this question.

In a post on the Fb group it was disclosed to me that many in the Coryani Legions are common folk who joined out of need for money, patriotic fervor, or a host of other reasons. However as was also stated many common folk fear the arcane so much they are willing to "drop a dime" on casters to the harvesters many spies. Also, as was stated, some if not all members of the legions who serve with casters take a "our heretic" view of them.

So in 5E, my Dark-Kin is a Former Legionnaire of Legio Anguis Reptatus. I was told that this legion has a fair number of casters in it. So would it be unreasonable for me to draw on this for a more concrete reason on why my character is willing to work with arcane casters despite his commoner status? For obvious reasons, as a PC I'm obviously going to work with whoever is at my table. Still I desire a somewhat in game reasoning.

Yes. James Zweirs once explained to me that LAR is heavy on casters. And has something of a mercenary attitude compared to other Coryani Legions. If you rubbed shoulders with lots of members of the Legion then you were probably exposed to lots of casters (of different stripes) and could definitely use that as an explaination of why you tolerate arcane casters.

Just think of the promotion a Harvester would get on the Isle if they could present the entire LAR to the Sorcerer King!

"My Lord, inside this glass sphere I have trapped the entire Legio Anguis Reptatus! Enough sorcerous power to keep the Inquisitors busy for years."
:sotto voice: "If I could just work out how to get them out one at a time so the legion doesn't slaughter us wholesale..."

I think you misunderstand the way the harvesters do their work..

yes they do have some paid informants.. many in every city, willing to sacrifice people they don't care about for some extra coin...

but people also talk, inns, taverns, and around Tabernas (shops)

Code:
"did you see that fight last night, there was a huge blast of fire, people are saying they heard it all the way across town!"

"Ya, ya, ya.... momma domain said she saw the entire thing, she said it was a gnome.. twisted fellow.. raving his hands in the air... I hear he also called something from the hells to fight off a group of armed men!!"

all the while the shop keeper keeps a keen ear and takes note....

It's not that everyone will sell you down the river..

but people talk.. and when something fantastic happens.. they talk a lot.

all someone has to do is listen.

As they say..."Actions have consequences..." ;)

All the more reason to keep it low key in heavily populated areas unless there's a war/BI going on in the city.

No, I recall the discussion on the Fb page. I was merely trying to not go fully back into the topic, as I was just seeking some clarification of my legion status and how it would, for rp reasons only, allow my dark kin to have a more progressive view of arcane casters. My small mention of that, wasn't me going back to a past conclusion. Ty for the post though.
