I'm curious as to why the Equestrian background (Codex of Heroes p. 49) gets the gladius instead of the spatha, since the latter weapon was used by cavalry on account of its longer reach and greater effectiveness when used on horseback. If you watch the movie Gladiator, Maximus starts out wielding a spatha and then switches to a gladius after losing the former weapon. This suggests that gladius is used by cavalry but as a backup weapon. I realize there's not an exact correlation between the Coryani Empire and the Roman Empire but it's pretty darned close. Especially if its true that the Coryani Empire is closer to the later empire. By then the gladius had been supplanted by the spatha as the primary weapon of the legions.

Compatibility with the rest of the Legions (and I didn't dig into that level of detail when writing it).

No real problem. There's plenty of ways to get training in the spatha. I just thought it odd that a unit clearly based on Roman cavalry was not using their standard weapon. I imagine the similarity to their real world counterpart is a large part of why people play legionnaires in the first place. :)
