I've gotten different responses on this but just what colors do priests of Beltine wear? I some cases I'm told yellow in others gray. I'm about to paint a figure so I want to get it right the first time. Repainting is a pain. :(

It was my understanding that normal Beltinian's wore gray, but that exorcists wore yellow, but I can't quote any particular source for that.

I was told something similar. As I recall the ones who deal with funerals wear yellow and the healers wear gray. I do both so what do I wear? :) There's also probably a difference between those who "adventure" and those who don't.

In funerals it is a pale yellow sheet that is used to wrap up the bodies. I believe her priests primarily wear this color. Beltine's herself is sometimes called the Gray Lady. I don't know if her priests actually wear gray...in my mind that's linked with the heretical gray crones.

But I've never played a Beltinian so I don't know for sure. My knowledge of details is strongest where it intersects with a PC I play

According to the old Codex Arcanis, Beltine's color is yellow, probably linked to the cloying yellow incense mentioned in the PGtA's description of their initial handling of the bodies.

The old fan-run onaraonline.org via archive.org had the following to say about Beltinian vestments:

Beltinian Vestments

  • Alb: The Beltinian church favors a floor-length alb for its formal vestments, and priests that do not travel widely. Itinerant priests may opt for a 3/4 length (halfway between knee and ankle) alb for practicality, though ankle-length is still prefered. The color of the alb should be some shade of yellow, with lighter, airier shades being prefered in order to differentiate them from the heavier more golden tones often worn by Illiirites.
  • Cincture: A sash of darker golden yellow or black, wide and often containing pockets. Higher orders may wear long sashes with tails falling at the hip.
  • Footwear: Chosen for practicality. Slippers often worn by those that do not adventure widely, or for high ritual. Closed shoes prefered.
  • Holy Symbol: A thurible or censer, burning incense when possible. Can be hung from the cincture when unlit. Sometimes also mounted to the head of a staff.
  • Mantle Ankle-length, light yellow often trimmed in black. Hooded, and with extra fabric scarf-like at the shoulders, such that tails can be wrapped about the head, concealing the face. Worn open, but bound by the cincture.
  • Underrobe: Worn when desired. Most often light yellow.

That was what was suggested for LARPing, at least. I have no idea how canonical (tee hee) it was.

The Beltinian NPCs mentioned in old modules (especially Enpebyn-based ones) are usually wearing yellow robes, though the "Gray Lady" epithet seems to have colored mod writers more recently, due to appearances such as the "gray maiden" who appears to Scipio and Darius in the Almeric description of the ARG.

Were I you, I'd go with the pale yellow, at least for any hood/mantle of the fig.

I have that bit from Onara Online. I lean toward yellow as well given that is listed as Beltine's sacred color on the original Codex. But there's been some "gray robes" popping up in recent mods which made me think that there had been a change in the canon. I found some really nice yellow linen online that would make a nice costume but the stuff is bloody expensive so I really want to be sure about this before I lay out the big bucks. Fortunately there's no Larp this year so I have some time to nail this down.

I have a hunch that the "gray maiden" as a Grey Crone, given their history with stirring up trouble with the val'Tensen (as seen in the old campaign). ;)

Which is why my Path at Tier 3 is Beltinian Hospitaler. :)

As we learned in recent mods there is some variation in the "far west" for how at least some sects of Beltinians dress. Which may also confuse matters.

For what it's worth it's my opinion that mother church and derivatives lean pale yellow.

My first recollection of encountering the Grey Lady/Crone, is beyond the Wall in Haina. That seems to have filtered back into the main areas instead of being country specific.
