The discussion about casting with a weapon and buckler got me thinking, how does it work for archer/bowman characters? While the bow and arrow requires two hands to use, the bow itself is only held in one hand.

I imagine you'd need Quick Hands like any other 2-Handed Weapon wielders.

Indeed, a bow is a two-handed weapon.

But if you let go with one hand, then either you drop the bow or the arrow flies off into the sunset.

Don't let go while you're reloading then.

Only if you have the bow cocked. If you drop your draw hand, you can still hold the arrow in the notch in place with the grip hand. I see no difference between this and dropping a 6 foot long sword to your side to free up a hand to cast, which is functionally what Quick Hands (ta) does for a Greatsword.

In my opinion you do not need quick hands to cast with a bow. You can easily hold the arrow and bow in one hand, and there are no rules for cocking a bow.

The problem with that interpretation is that a Bow is a two-handed weapon, which means it requires two-hands to wield properly (both in game and in reality). The ability of a person to 'drop' a hand from a two handed weapon to cast is summed up very clearly in the Quick Hands talent, which means that it works exactly the same way for a bow (also a weapon requiring two hands). If we're going for consistency, then to cast with a bow requires two hands. I strongly oppose making special rules which give exceptions to this when none are needed.

It's no more difficult to hold a greatsword in one hand to cast than it is to do so with a bow and arrow. The rules are in place for 2 handed weapons and there is currently no distinction between ranged or melee weapons for Quick Hands.

There's also no reason to make special rules for bows and crossbows for balance purposes in terms of casting.
