I did not play in the last campaign, but my take away from reading the board is that Jeggal Sag could not grant spells, and his priests were really Shamans.

This is supported in this edition by the statement under the shaman initiate background that ssressen need to be male followers of Jeggal Sag, and by the fact that there are no diety specific spells for him.

This is not supported by the entry on him in the religion section where it specifically says his priests are called disciples because they are men, but it thus says he has priests. Additionally, in the religions table, it has an entry for what followers of Jeggal Sag get when they get armor proficiency in their God's armor, thus indicating that there are priests/templar of Jeggal Sag.

So.... can Jeggal Sag grant divine spells and can I make a templar to him? If my ssressen becomes a templar to Jeggal Sag, can he take divine casting and cast spells? Will there be more about this in the upcoming release of the Sethregor book?

One has nothing to do with the other - where its says "shamans" is in the rule section and priests is cited in the story section. Why? Because his priests are not going to call themselves shamans just because the rules say that 's what they are.

So to be clear: Jeggal Sag's priests are shamans in "rules-speak".

That's what I thought from what is on the boards. But I didn't see any rule indicating that, so I looked at the story section. I would recommend clarifying that in errata because I don't see any rules against it

Thanks!

There is a new Ssethregore book coming out due to the Kickstarter. I wouldn't be surprised to see many more rules for Jeggal Sag in there.

Just to make sure I understand, you could make a Templar of Jeggal Sag, since he is a listed god and is worshiped by those in the known lands. But you could not then take the Diving Spellcasting talent for that templar.

Is this correct?

Could he take other Devout talents?

Thanks for the clarification.

That is correct, though Jeggal Sag doesn't have Templars.

Templars defend temples - that's something that Jeggal Sag doesn't have.

No.

While I would never presume to tell you the story reasons for things, the Templar background says nothing about temples. It had been understood to be more along the lines of a paladin or soldier of the faith. If there is to be a restriction based upon religions that have temples, that may need to be added. Currently though, the only mention of Ss'ressen mention that if you worship the fire dragon you must be male.

From the book:
Quote:
While some hear the call of the gods, not all seek to be priests. Many of these souls are called to be soldiers of the faith.

When I read the fluff around Jeggal Sag, there are not suppose to be any female worshipers, period. And such understanding leads me to believe there are not suppose to be any ss'ressen female shamans, as the ss'ressen shamans worship Jeggal Sag.

In response, I look at any female ss'ressen under the Arcane (Primal) route as following necromancy, not shamanism. So with "Templar" of Jeggal Sag, your character is trained like he was a templar but serves a different role.

Further, where does it say that a worshiper of Jeggal Sag can't take divine spellcasting? I know the Ghost Scale can't go into divine spellcasting, but there is no visible reason why not Jeggal Sag. I know there are no deity specific spells for Jeggal Sag, but that only means current characters are limited to the generic list.

Thank you - I appreciate that.

No - Paladins are the equivalent of Holy Champion.

Perhaps I believed that the term "Templar" was commonly understood - I see that I was wrong and everything will need to be spelled out to the smallest detail from now on.

This is incorrect or misstated.

Male or female ss'ressen can worship the fire dragon. Only females can become priests.
