Am I missing something, or is this a hugely powerful talent? Most talents give a +1 to one, maybe two skills; and not to the passive value: prodigy, weapon mastery, stealthy, etc., etc. Generally, the ones that give two seem pretty powerful compared to the rest! And obviously these don't stack with other talents.

But then comes along the talent "sabbatical," which allows your character to: "You may gain 1 rank in a number of trained skills equal to your Passive Logic." which will usually be at least 2 skills, often three. It gives you exactly the skills you need (because you choose!), it adds to passive, it stacks with everything. It's amazing! It has no prerequisites except tier II.

I assume every character will take it at tier II. Am I wrong?

It's definitely a great talent, but is it worth it for every character? Probably not. I will likely take it at some point myself, but I don't know if will be Tier II.

But it is a training talent. As such, you can only have 1 for your Hero, ever. Granted, this one you can take multiple times, choosing a different option. But, as more training talents come out, it could make deciding which training talent you choose a tough call.

If you care about maxing out skills then yes, this is a must have talent. Most useful for various "attack skills" and anything that faces an opposed roll (larceny/perception/stealth).

This is a really powerful talent. Grants you ranks in skills grants you defense and not bonuses to Def, but actual Def. I could only fit it in my build once unfortunately. I would have loved to take it all 4 times.

As per more training talents to come, Matt, I'm not optimistic. As of right now we have a training talent so powerful it had to be banned. And a few others that people complain about not being powerful enough.

Aahhh. Missed that you can only have one training skill. How does that work with Paths being able to ignore restrictions? If you take The sabbatical talent, but then take the path "Psionic Inquisitor," do you get sarishan training which is also a training skill, or not?

Ok, clarify...

As a side note:
The talent does seem very powerful.. originally they where all separate talents (with Sabbatical being the 1st, skill based option) and in a quest to cut down page count I combined all 4 talents into on.

if you think about it, a talent which you only can take once, giving you a +X to a defense is not all that powerful.

and a onetime boost to a limited amount of skills is not game braking (and better served with the intent of qualifying for a path) especially when you look at DC's and Defenses at Tier 4 and 5

You have to take one of the other abilities each time. You can't take skills every time.
