Is it possible for me to adapt my arcane strike with the Piercing adaption and therefore make my complete attack armour piercing?

i.e.
Bastard Sword wielded 2 handed +
arcane strike with Elemental Bolt +
Piercing Adaption + another Maneuver if so wish.

I say no.

Piercing Strike requires a +3 to CTN, Arcane Strike says Basic Spell (not adapted), and states very clearly how it works with AR.

Technically a spell modified with Adaptations is still a Base Spell. I see nothing wrong with applying this with Arcane Strike. The general rule for Arcane Strike re: AR is of course the norm but specific rules may override that.

now that i am home and can read the maneuver. damaging spells cast this way can not bypass AR.

when i use the attack i am assuming that the spell when cast can not be a spell that is rolled to cast. it must be equal to or less then my passive spell casting skill.

guess i could roll for the spell as it says i cast this spell as part of the attack.

not sure.

I'm pretty sure the spell could be one that you have to roll to cast.

1) You can have to roll to cast the spell's CTN

2) The 'base' Arcane Strike says no bypassing, but applying a specific adaptation could be getting into the "Rules can be broken by other rules" thing. I'd like an official weigh in on that before I would disallow it at a table.

Wow
I just noticed a serious problem with the wording of Arcane strike thanks to Cody. It says "Basic Spell" instead of "Base Spell" If my memory and understanding are correct those are two different things.

It should read Base Spell.. there is no Basic Spell.... Universal Spells, yes, but no Basic Spells

Piercing Adaptation does nothing for the part of the damage done by the weapon. In most cases this would make it irrelevant whether or not the damage from the spell ignored part of all of the AR.

I disagree with Eric, due to the wording of the maneuver, Arcane Strike.

Code:
Damaging spells cast this way do not bypass AR and do not inflict (Primary) damage; only the melee attackā€™s Attribute die is added to the weapon and spell damage. Add all of the damage together to compare vs. AR; any elemental specific AR would apply against the sum if the spell used does  elemental damage.

I postulate that if by using Arcane Strike, the 'melee' damage of my weapon suddenly can become "elemental" damage that is subject to elemental AR, then if I apply an AR piercing adaptation (thereby breaking the base rule of the maneuver not bypassing AR), that the entire sum would bypass AR. The cost for Piercing Spell is scaling (The more AR you bypass the higher the strain).
