Unarmed combat doesn't specify a specific body part used as a weapon as it will vary based on fighting style anything from martial arts to dirty tricks. When you use Two Weapon Fighting or something like Spinning Strikes, do one or both of the attacks have to be with your hands or could it be a foot, knee, etc.? If you're carrying a shield and it's not engaged in the attack, do you keep or lose the shield bonus?

Thanks.

Nothing Official of course...

1) I would say that you can describe your attacks however you want, with whatever body part you choose. The 'first' attack would be your Main Hand and the 'second' attack would be your Off-Hand.
2) For balance, I would say you lose the benefits of a shield while TWF with unarmed strikes. After all you are contorting your body in such a way as to knee, kick, or elbow slam someone. That puts your shield out of position to effectively block an attack.

2) Unless Ss'ressen since they can use tail swipe (or tail bracer) for off-hand.

I agree with both of the above statements. That is how I would rule it till an official answer.

Thanks. That's pretty much where I had netted out as well, but wanted to confirm.

For balance of what?

there is nothing in the rules to say "you can't use a shield and TWF with unarmed"

John you are falling into a logical fallacy called "Denying the Antecedent"

If P, then Q.
Not P.
Therefore, not Q.

You could come up with other scenarios that make perfect sense, like your first attack is a headbutt and its followed by a kick.

I feel that this is a gut reaction, and not supported by the rules.

Based on the descriptions of the shields, it's pretty clear that the shield takes up the hand. I wouldn't allow doing much of anything with the shield hand (without dropping/stowing the shield). The buckler description in Arcanis differs from some other games and requires gripping the shield.

sure but i dont think the question is about a shield taking up a hand, I don't disagree with that at all.

The question was does "using TWF with unarmed combat" mean you cant use a shield.

Quote:
Unarmed

I agree with Josh. You could kick a guy with your "off-hand" attack, you could head butt them, you could even use the same arm, punching a guy then elbowing him or shoulder a guy.

Unarmed attack has no barring on your shield usage unless you're a boxer.

it would however be a hindrance on people using two claw attacks (like to qualify for the tooth and claw fighting style)
