Are we allowed to play a val’Sungha (roleplaying wise), and since they aren't written up yet, how would you build one (mechanics wise), until stats come out them in a later publication?

This come up because I read the new background, "Keeper of Traditions" that seems to be for humans only, but than has the "a val who chooses this starts with a flintlock" in the description. In discussions it sounded like a val’Sungha would probably be able to qualify for this, as they would be counted as "kio." It was suggested that mechanically one could just call themselves a val’Sungha, but build the character using val'borda, or I believe it was val'Tensen. Would there be any other options? Is this even an option? Or would it be better to take kio an call yourself val’Sungha? Would you be able to take psionics then?

Just to share, here is the relevant wording on the Keeper of traditions:

Keeper of Traditions

Nationality: Hinterlands, League of Princes

Race:human if Hinterlands, Kio or Undir if League of
Princes

Special: A val who chooses this Background starts play
with an Adorned flintlock pistol.

Greetings,

If you look at the Race description, it's effectively broken up by region.

If Hinterlands - must be human
If League of Princes - Kio or Undir

You're correct that the comment regarding the val anticipates the likelihood of the val'Sungha being available at some point.

With a sweep of his...

Yes, I understood that region covered some of the variation of the statement. You seem to be acknowledging that val'Sungha would fall under the kio condition for the league of princes. I know they aren't out yet, but I was asking about possible recommendations for mechanistically building a val'Sungha now (since the rules aren't out yet) for a val'Sungha character I want to roleplay? Are there specific val families that mechanically are best stand-ins for val'Sungha's, or would it be better to use the kio race as a template but say it is a val'Sungha for roleplay purposes?

At this time you are not allowed to play a val sungha in the living CSE campaign. Until stats are printed in a ARPG book or campaign document exists to allow you to do so atleast. I assume that anything not in the books is off limits like canceri or ymandragore.

if you wanted to make one up for home play i would look at the 3.5 players guide to arcanis and use the stats presented therein, they do some illusion stuff and some diplomacy stuff

If you want to make a 'placeholder' character, I'd make a vanilla Kio named [insert first name here] Sungha. Without the val'-prefix, it suggests you are a human (or Kio) who is either the child of a Val who did not inherit the divine heritage or was adopted into the clan.

That said, if you look into the Players Guide to Arcanis, the 3.5 core book for the Arcanis universe, there is versions of the val'Sungha bloodline powers from that system listed. If you were doing a home game (or had a lenient GM) you could make a backwards-compatible system of bloodline powers that would not be legal in the Living Campaign/at a Con, but could serve your needs in the meantime.

Another way to go about it, if you are planning on being psionic is to make a val and not take any bloodline talents, spells, or powers, but use your racial talent for Heirloom Kio Blade until then.

in the CSE campaign taking heirloom with the bloodline talent granted by being a val is not a legal choice.

sorry devin

I thought they got an Any Talent and a bloodline talent (away from book)?
No, your bloodline talent you take potent blood and call lower day.

As per the legality, if you make a val'x and play it as a val'sungha I thought you were allowed to take heirloom kio blank as a foundation talent. Unwritten exception to make val'sungha playable.

Devin, yeah you get one bloodline and one any, Potent blood isn't a "bloodline talent" its a racial talent (from the errata) so you are still stuck with a bloodline talent.

uh are you talking about a Campaign exception to allow val'sungha to be playable? I dont think one exists or should exist at this time since there are no actual rules to support them
