Hi

Just a question for the ARG ruleset

If a character is a pugilist, specializing in unarmed combat is there an option for the acquisition of weapon runes.

There is the option of gauntlet, etc but that will take more training in a new weapon so I was looking to see if there is an option of someone just using his fists.

In FiM it mentions that Fine or Exceptional clothing can be used for Armor runes. Is there a ruling for the use of gloves for the same effect?

I'm nobody official, but I tried building something similar. I didn't find any character-customization options that helped much. Item-wise, FiM page 17 details the Bands of Iron Might, which will do the trick most directly. I haven't seen a way for an ARG PC to acquire those in the adventures I've played, but I've missed a lot.

Good luck!

Not someone official, but gloves count as clothing and therefore high quality gloves arguably would count. Now, that said, You only gain the benefit of one "set" of armor, so if you're wearing gloves that have runes on them you can't also take advantage of an armor rune on your tunic for example. You shouldn't arguably be able to mix and match armor runes based on how you want to dress for the day. Perhaps I'm wrong. That's something Pedro or Matt would need to chime in on.

I was looking more at what could be used for weapon runes

There are a couple of magical gloves in FiM that specifically state that weapon runes can be added but can you do the same for non-magical gloves?

My personal opinions, no one official:

Yes. You can put weapon runes on gloves. Just as you can put weapon runes on a gauntlet.

Hat said he thinks gloves count as part of the clothing you are wearing. While I respect Hat's opinions I am not totally sure this one is right. My thinking runs along the lines of gauntlets are listed as weapons (and can have their own runes), even though they come as part of a suit of (heavy) armor.

A conservative approach would be to treat weapon runes on gloves as part of the set of runes you can put on one item of armor/clothing.

Again. Just my thoughts. You may need to check with local judges and look for consensus.

What additional training do they require? They run off the unarmed combat skill. If you want the weapon tricks, you need to take proficiency with them, but without the proficiency it is just like unarmed, unless you plan on dramatically increasing your unarmed damage by buffs (claws of the beast or body of the warrior, etc) which either might preclude gauntlets or just not scale up with the damage of the spell.

Hi mate.

Yes I was talking about Weapon Training and Weapon mastery with worn weapons like Gauntlets.

I have Pugilist, iron Fist, Training and Mastery (T1 & T2) in unarmed so really don't want to have to go down the path of doing the same with Gauntlets etc.

If there is no way to add weapon rune, I will just do without them.

As stated in Forged in Magic pg.5 armor runes may be placed on appropriate quality garb, not weapon runes.

Cestus and Gauntlet are what you want to look at for Associating Runes with Unarmed attacks

Hi Josh

As mentioned before, I am not really interested in heading down the path of cestus or Gauntlets as I will need to take weapon training and weapon mastery talents for them that I already have for unarmed.

Its no biggy, I just thought I would see if there is a option for the Pugilist.

Cheers
