I'm working on an Altherian Triggermage, which gives me access to Arcane Strike through Empower Shot, and had a few questions about Arcane Strike.

"It only affects the target of this maneuver": Would this remove the healing gained from A Pound of Flesh?

"Choose any basic spell": Does that mean you cannot add any adaptations?

Thanks

Adaptations should be fine, you just can't use any Advanced spells. A Pound of flesh should work normally, I believe that clause is just there to prevent you from using AoE spells.

Quote:
Effect: Weapon; choose any basic spell that requires an
attack roll; you may cast this spell as part of this attack.
The range of this spell is changed to melee and it only
affects the target
of this maneuver. Damaging spells cast
this way do not bypass AR and do not inflict (Primary)
damage
; only the melee attack’s Attribute die is added
to the weapon and spell damage. Add all of the damage
together to compare vs. AR; any elemental specific AR
would apply against the sum if the spell used does elemental
damage. This maneuver has a speed equal to the
higher speed cost between the weapon and spell and a
Recovery cost equal to the lower speed between the two.

Emphasized the two most pertinent portions. I would say that the damage die would be added, but not the 'bypass AR' portion or the 'healing' portion as it manouver says specifically that it only affects the target of the attack (not someone else to get the healing).

That makes sense, thanks.

I had one last question. Since Arcane Strike has both Recovery and Strain, am I correct in assuming that they go away together?

The only thing which affects the passing of Strain and Recovery is Push, and since neither is a push the two clocks move simultaneously. However, while you wait you either have to burn stamina to cast, and you are only limited to basic attacks.

How does the Talent Adaptation: Piercing Spell interact with Arcane Strike? Would it do anything?

By the way, if I use Arcane Strike with Diminish Fatigue, would it heal equal to the weapon damage, or deal the weapon damage, then the healing?

I would expect that using Diminish Fatigue would both deal weapon damage and healing. So it would generally not be very useful. However, if you were an actor in a play and performing in a combat scene, I could see that being all kinds of cool (special effects-like) when actor #1 stabs actor #2 and it doesn't really do much damage due to the Diminish Fatigue. But whether or not that's feasible is a whole 'nuther discussion.
