Short version: How does one get a Hawk/Eagle in this game for the purposes of the Loyal Companion Talent? Started a thread on heirloom and results were mixed on the issue of animals. Can heirloom be used to gain a hawk or are you out of luck till you scrape together 50 gc?

Longer version: So...Played a character called Rhyndei (a Kio) in a couple of the early introductory mods and had an idea that he was going to be my secondary. Then further figured out the mechanics of the game and completely scrapped my primary. Created a similar but tweaked/improved version that is now Eisener and then was gifted with a val Cessari character for my work with the Invisible Kings. Rhyndei's concept was partially amalgamated into Eisner and the rest got dumped.

Thing is I judge a lot and I need to start filling out a tertiary character and I'm thinking of rebuilding Rhyndei but I want something significantly different than my other two characters. One of things I'm interested in is playing a PC who is an arcane caster, or has a loyal companion, or both. This might be a good fit for Rhyndei since there used to be a PrC called Eagle Lords who mixed druidic/primal casting and falconry.

Loyal Companion definitely works with Hawks/Raptors. But doesn't give you a bird to start with. Can you use Heirloom to make this viable?

I would say yes you could use it to gain a bird (or wildcat or other animal). If you can use Heirloom for a horse or dog, I see no reason it wouldn't work for other animals.
