Question about the Exceptional Quality and Flintlocks. Does the -1 speed reduction get applied to the firing time (and thus coverted to an extra +1 damage) or does the -1 speed reduction get applied to the reload time?

Neither.

There is no advantage to using an Exceptional Flintlock over a Fine Flintlock in combat.

The speed conversion to extra damage is *only* from a single spell (Celerity) and is not an effect of any other speed reduction.

Just on the face of it an exceptional flintlock SHOULD be better in combat in some way. If my match grade rifle can't shoot as well as an off the shelf model I would be not happy with the gunsmith or company that sold it to me. Any exceptional item should grant some benefit or nobody would go to the trouble of making them in the first place. Just common sense. And I prefer a degree of common sense and civility at my game tables.

Now from my experience a better grade firearm is generally made to be more accurate so I would say an exceptional firearm should get a +1 to hit. At least that makes sense to me. I look forward to hear what the powers that be have to say. Take care all. :)

+1 to hit is given by a Legendary weapon already.

The advantage of an exceptional flintlock is that it can hold an exceptional rune and that when used as a melee weapon the speed is reduced.

+1

The exceptional bonus to reduce speed would apply when you swing a flintlock in melee. And of course you can put an exceptional rune on it.

I forgot about the rune bit, still there should be something to make the exceptional flintlock better in ranged combat, which after all is its primary function. I suppose you could make the argument that +1 to damage could reflect increased accuracy since your more likely to hit a vital spot. Again just my opinion on the issue, not trying to ruffle any feathers here. :)
