OK, so guarded charge and pounce are both very useful martial techniques based on charge. Pounce has a speed of 3(2) and guarded charge has a speed of 3(1). They are both base maneuvers that replace the charge action. Can they be combined? If so, at what speed/recovery. It seems silly for them to combine like most techniques to make an advanced technique since they are both just part of charge. Of course, I'm not sure there is a reason to, since pounce doesn't list any effect on avoidance, so I'm unsure whether it needs to be combined to avoid having an avoidance of 12. Thoughts?

I don't see any issues with combining them.

Quote:
Guarded Charge
Requirements: Melee (any) +6
Category: Base
Attack: Avoidance (Qu)
Speed (Recovery): +3 (1)
Range: Melee
Effect: When you utilize the Charge attack option (pg. 311), you only suffer a -4 to your Avoidance till your next action. This penalty is further reduced to -2 once you reach +12 with
any Melee skill specialization.
Note: This maneuver improves upon the Charge attack option (pg. 311). As such, this maneuver’s Speed is not added to that for performing a Charge.
Weapons: Any melee weapon or unarmed.

Quote:
Pounce [Limited]
Requirements: minimum Pace of 25’ and Melee (Unarmed) 3
Category: Base
Attack: Avoidance (Pr)
Speed (Recovery): +3 (2)
Range: Melee
Effect: Weapon; if you also successfully bypass your opponent’s Fortitude, your target is knocked prone. You must charge at least 10’ to use this maneuver, and it may only be used against opponent’s one size category larger or smaller.
Note: This maneuver improves upon the Charge Attack Option. As such, this maneuver’s Speed replaces that of performing a Charge.
Weapons: bite attack or claws

Advanced Man.

Guarded Pounce
Requirements: minimum Pace of 25’ and Melee (Unarmed) 6
Category: Advanced
Attack: Avoidance (Pr)
Speed (Recovery): +3 (5)
Range: Melee
Effect: Weapon; if you also successfully bypass your opponent’s Fortitude, your target is knocked prone. You must charge at least 10’ to use this maneuver, and it may only be used against opponent’s one size category larger or smaller. When you utilize the Charge attack option (pg. 311), you only suffer a -4 to your Avoidance till your next action. This penalty is further reduced to -2 once you reach +12 with any Melee skill specialization.

That's a good question. Does use of Pounce reduce your Avoidance to 12? It doesn't say anything about being an improved version of Charge or mention an Avoidance penalty but it does say "you must charge at least 10'".
