Am I correct to assume that if your starting nation is Freeport, and you take Expatriate Background and chose Altheria as your adopted nation, you can legally carry flintlocks? Or do you have to be a native born Altherian Citizen?

You are not considered to be a citizen of Altheria, you are an exile to that land. As such, you are NOT Altheran, and therefore cannot carry a gun unless you are a Val or Altharen Priest.

Interesting, because Expatriate will give anybody a flintlock if Altheria is the adopted nation. I guess you could steal one once you get there. But I believe that would make for a short lived PC, as I suspect that any GM would ask for his license should I bring a gun toting pirate to the table.

Thanks for the clarification Cody.

I agree with Cody. On the other hand if you reverse it so that you are an Altherian expat living in the Pirate Isles then you'd keep your right to carry.

But Freeport went -BOOM- don't know anybody that actually lives there now. :-P Naroi will just sacrifice an expatriate to the volcano. Garundi, well the only thing in the campaign that is from Garundi is Armand. I'd don't know anyone that wants to move to his homeland. :-P

Eric if you want to be a pirate type of character what about Censure. I'm sure some pirates...er "privateers" operate out of that port city. Especially if you curry favor with the right Houses. I do love that place! Especially since Freeport is gone. :( :( :(

Oh no. This guy has the nightmares to prove his survival from the cataclysm. I don't really want to use the flintlock, but it's on the mini.

Ya, that was my thought too. When did that happen? I checked the core book. It's odd. Freeport is indeed referenced several times in the book, and seems to still exist, as it is one of the locations in the pirate islands that PC's can come from according to the table, but there is no actual description of Freeport in the Pirate Islands section of the book, which seems odd.

Freeport the city made the transition (in its own way) into the ARPG rules, and has been referenced several places. That said, no stories have taken place in that area as of yet in the last few years, so news of the islands is scarce. For all the people of the First City know, all of the pirate isles have been wiped out by a giant snake from the valley of Zhou or consumed by a swarm of small sea fish and turtles.
