I think SouthernSkies brings up a good idea. Still needs to be adjudicated at every table though. For example, if Challenge happens first and EomE lands second, does it only supercede until EomE has passed, or is the Challenge cancelled? I would expect it simply takes precedence. If the EomE lands first and the Challenge comes second, I would expect a failed challenge attempt would basically be cancelled. You don't have the target's attention enough for it to have registered. I could easily see other GMs rule differently.

The more tools the GM has in their toolbox to make for a fun adventure, the better.

The way I understand the contested roll is if you don't succeed on the roll, the 'effect' fails all together (The spell doesn't work or the Challenge doesn't work). If you succeed on the roll, the new effect overwrites the old effect and it ends. There wouldn't be a suppression or duration.
