Ok am confused in the explorer's Kit it says Quote: If the backpack is used to store the silk rope (3), grappling hook (2), crowbar (2), mess/cooking kit (1), rations (2), small mirror (1), chalk (.5), and ink (.5), the total Encumbrance is 18. Now if I add up all the encumbrances of the items in the backpack that's an encumbrance of 12. Now according to the Backpacks write up it can only hold 10 points of encumbrance, but that is not really what I want to get at. Why is the encumbrance of the whole set at 18? If items in the backpack have there encumbrance halved then it should be 6 for the items inside and 2 for encumbrance of backpack for a total of 8. I see this throughout all the Kits. The Military Kit should be 6 encumbrance (4 for the equipment and 2 for the pack). Travelers kit should be 7 instead of 8.5 (5 for equipment plus 2 for pack). This has bugged me for sometime. Can someone explain? |

Interesting. I'd never bothered doing the math on the kit encumbrances. It would be nice to see them corrected in the next errata. One minor quibble - I'd put the encumbrance of the explorer's kit at 9 (5 (10 halved) + 2 (leftover) + 2 (backpack)) but that's still much less than 18. |

Wow. Never noticed those discrepancies. They presently weigh less listing the encumbrance of each separately. I always thought the kits seemed bizarrely heavy--every character I've ever seen start with an Explorer's Kit had bulk from it alone from the get-go. |

We did calculate it out on the old boards, and a couple of items don't fit in the pack or are calculated wrong for the reduced encumbrance. Military Kit: 14 base; 10.5 packed. Backpack 2 + (4.5) = 6.5 * Bedroll (3) * Tinderbox (0.5) * Mess Kit (1) * Waterskin (1) * Whetstone (0.5) * Rations (3) (misc garb) Tent (4) |

Leave the tent at home. You've got the bed roll. You're an adventurer...rough it while you are out in "the field." The (very) rare times you're sleeping in the field.... |

But, I *need* my pavilion with the servants quarters, the field kitchen and the masseuse... ![]() |

Why the hell aren't your servants carrying the bleeping tent? And your backpack? ...why do you care what anything weighs? Add some lead weights. I hear your kitchen staff is slacking. |
