According to the spell, a priest of Beltine casting this spell could add a Fine quality Spirit Bane Rune to a Weapon. According to page 10 of Forged in Magic Volume 1, a Fine quality Spirit Bane rune has an effect of "nil." So I am out of luck, or is there some errata I'm missing, otherwise I see no reason to take this spell as a Beltinian caster.

I've noticed problems with this spell. Fire Dragon gives a Fine Fire rune (which does exist and have an effect at least) but the Adapted version to add both runes is useless because both runes add +1 damage so do not stack.

It seems like either some of these runes need to be changed to actually be useful or the spell needs to explicitly break rules (eg have an effect for a Fine Spirit Bane, allow stacking the +1 damage from the 2 runes allowed by the spell, etc).

A little more tangentially, it seems like the Fire Dragon effect for divine spells with such options (Benediction of the Gods, Sanctify Weapon, etc) is always subpar.

Perhaps this is a sign that you need to convert to the worship of the one true fire deity ;)

I would have loved to worship Nier (and played an Ashen Hide) but, since Ashen Hides are not campaign-legal, I was stuck with Fire Dragon (Black Talon).

Same here. I would love to play a Huge Nierite Ashen Hide Ss'ressen with a flaming flamberge running around smiting infidels and showing them the error of their ways! Burn baby burn!! :D

I'm not aware of anything in the rules which would prohibit a black talon ssressen from worshipping Nier...I mean yeah, your people will see you as a heretic, but I'm sure that wouldn't have any repercussions ;)

Any chance I get somebody on campaign staff to address this? Unless I'm reading it wrong I don't see the reason to take the spell since the benefit is subpar.

I've been told many times "everything won't be equal." That may end up being the answer here. I'm not saying I support it, but it is possible.

Althares - Fine Unassailable Rune
Anshar - Fine Relentless Rune
Belisarda - Fine Perseverance Rune
Beltine - Fine Spirit Rune
Cadic - Fine Celerity Rune
Fire Dragon - Fine Fire Rune
Hurrian - Fine Lightning Rune
Larissa - Fine Celerity Rune
Nier - Fine Fire Rune
Neroth - Fine Hatred: Undead Rune
Saluwe' - Fine Avalanche Rune
Sarish - Fine Sorcery Rune
Yarris - Fine Frost Rune

Does not function at base level of spell, requiring a CTN+6 to be at all useful.
Does not 'stack' with the Sanctified rune

I should point out that having a +1 'God' rune and a +1 Sanctified Rune isn't necessarily a bad thing. After all, not all bad guys are vulnerable to the same thing, so having them both on and activated means that SOMETHING should always get through.

Point is there is no FINE spirit bane rune...book says nil...doesn't function until exceptional. If this is a case of too bad so sad there are other spells I can and will take. I have no problem with that. It's just I'm trying to make this guy really good against incorporeal creatures (makes sense for a Beltinian ). Not trying to be uber just characterful.
