I cannot speak to intention, but Holy Champions and Sword Saints are very different kettles of fish. Holy Champions are the "heroes" of the Church Militants. They represent the elite warriors of the various temples around Onara, and would be the commanders of various Templars as a Centurion would to Legionnaires. A Sword Saint is simply a lay-warrior who fights in the name of their chosen god. There is no hierarchy of Sword Saints as there is with Holy Champions, and there is almost no requirements to qualify as one. Functionally, it is the equivalent of a US Army Lieutenant vs. a random militiamen in Montana. Sure, they both wield weapons and both (possibly) profess loyalty to the United States of America, but they are from completely different organizations, tend to have different goals, different methods, etc. |
