What is the max range of weapons with the thrown quality? Example the smiths hammer has a thrown range of 10'. Is that a range incriment, the max range or both? |

My view:The listed range increment is the maximum distance. This normally is only found on weapons which are not in themselves missile weapons (like daggers), so they simply lack the mechanics to fly further (and I mean physcial mechanics, not game mechanics). |

Thats what I thought too. A smiths hammer with mighty throw would then have a max range of 20' which is pretty far to toss a 5lb sledge. |

As written, I agree with Cody's interpretation. The dagger though makes an interesting oddity. It's trait is Thrown (10'). Fair enough given that throwing blades are introduced specifically with a 20'/40' range. Yet, you look at the weapon tricks and the tier II level is "Twin Throw." Range is 30' for a dagger at each of 2 targets or hit the same target with both. The Tier III Steel Rain says hit everything within 20' with a dagger. Tricks and martial techniques specifically adjust the rules so there's no inherent conflict, though it does seem strange that there's no native way to throw a single dagger 20' or 30' even as a trick. It's throw 2, or as many as there are targets within 20' or you're limited to a single dagger within 10'. With a sweep of his hat, Paul |

That's a good question. Somewhat helpfully A:RPG says on page 238 A:RPG pg 238 wrote: Each range increment applies a -1 penalty to the attack roll and lowers the Attribute die of the attacker by one size category, to a cap of a -5 penalty and only dealing the weapon’s base die in damage. Which seems to indicate that you get more than one range increment with thrown weapons. For some weapons that gets hard baked into the system. If its listed as a thrown weapon on table 2-23 then both a range increment AND a maximum is listed. But a weapon with the thrown quality only gets one range listing. Though I don't really like the results of the idea, I agree with the people who have suggested that the thrown quality "distance" is probably meant to be both the increment and the max distance. If there is a specific trick of MT that superceeds this general rule, I would go with the MT or trick for expanding the maximum distance of the attack...but I believe the range increment (usually 10') would remain and you would take penalties for each increment. |

Range increment is something specifically called out in the ranged weapon table. I thought the same thing Eric but couldn't find anywhere that indicated that thrown, had increments. Also, the fact that throwing blades specifically show an increment makes me believe the others don't have one. with a sweep of his hat, Paul |

So a Smith's Hammer with Mightythrow is range 60' since that is what the trick lists as the range? |

Quote: Effect: Weapon +5, and increase your weapons range increment by 10’ No, that means that the maximum range of the Trick is 60'. It clearly says that the Smith's Hammer is 10', and the effect clearly states that you increase your weapon's range by 10', which means the Hammer would have a range of 20'. |

Ok. So I was right the first time..... 20' max range for the smiths hammer with mighty throw. |

Agreed. Mighty Throw is a MT that can be used with any thrown weapon ... The range here is a max. There are a couple of TRICKS that seem to break these rules though. I think some one mention Twin Throw with the Dagger was listed as a range of 30. I think in that specific case its extending the maximum range to 30 (w/10' increments). I'm rolling with the ideas that specific rules usually trump general rules, and by guessing at the intent of the author. |
