So I noticed something odd this afternoon while helping a player make a character. The steel whip seems to be the only weapon that doesn't appear on any of the national weapons lists and I was just wondering if this was intentional or something that was missed. Just seemed odd so I thought I would ask

Thanks

In another system the steel whip might be described as an exotic weapon. Its not an accident that the steel whip is not on any of the national weapon lists. I only see people using it who take the Expert Archetype...though you could spend a talent to become proficient in it too.

The double spear also appears on no lists. As far as I know, those are the only two weapons that don't.

The national lists just reflect weapons that are commonly used and trained in general in that area. It does not mean that the weapon is completely foreign to that nation. For example, Black Talon are the only ones who receive Unarmed as a national weapon. However, there is a long tradition of unarmed fighters in Coryan, especially among the Medja of Old Coryan. The training is just not prevalent enough to be included among the whole country.

That is what I firgued, but I thought I would ask just to be sure. On the topic of ways to get access to "exotic" weapons the Mercenary background also get to pick any one weapon training talent, am sure that is something you guys were aware of but I thought I would share just incase.

And thanks for clearly things up on the non-listed weapons front.

I always figured the lack of unarmed combat on the table was an artifact of it being in the equipment section, since pretty much everywhere teaches some unarmed combat, and unarmed combat is almost always important even in armed combat (pushing, head butting, kicks, even while sword fighting, etc). Heck, unarmed combat is one of the regional skills for the pirate isles, but it isn't one of the regional weapons listed in the weapon tables. That makes no sense.

I asked this back in the day since the description of it says it is a popular weapon in the League of Princes. The answer was, it's popular, but not a commonly used or taught weapon. It's a weapon you use mostly for style or flavor, as it doesn't have the best weapon tricks and it's the most expensive weapon outside of Kio swords and Flintlocks. However, it's fun, and that's just as important in many respects :)
